Just re-watched yesterdays game & didn't see whilst at the game, Yaya was marking Caulker before the kick was taken, but when the ball came in and Caulker ran towards the goal, Yaya only lazily followed, leaving him a free header. Having watched Ajax replays, his marking on both set pieces, but especially their second the near post header is to say the least lax. I seem to remember similar situations last season against Bayern & Napoli away.

Does anyone else agree that Yaya should not be involved in defensive set ups as for me as great as he is, the defensive side of his game, especially on set pieces is poor

His failure to mark his man is there for everyone to see.

I would like to know why he is doing this.

And I also would like to know why he is not getting any stick for it off his team-mates. If I were his captain or his team-mate, he'd be getting his head bitten off in the dressing room at half-time.

love yaya and he can be a force on the field when he wants to be ... but for some reason I always get the feeling that if he did get vinnie up in his face about not marking a man or for being a lazy ass, he's the kind of person that would pack up his toys and decide not to play anymore.

See a lot of that type at amateur level, get a similar sort of feeling from yaya. Maybe i'm mistaken.

I definitely wouldn't trust him to fight to win a defensive header if the game is on the line.

Given the fact that he has been well equipped by the Nature to jump and make his body count, I'd rather have the manager (with maybe the assistance of the captain on the pitch - well said, Sir!) to "convince him" to earn his 220 grands a week with allround performances. The bloke won a CL final lined at CB, hard to say he cannot jump.
Failing that I'd introduce a automatic fine for each and every missed jump.

Also agree with Kinki and his gut feeling. but yet again time is due to make bright as the sun that wearing the ManCity kit is not like having an employment at a whatsoever public office. No special dispensation should allowed and if the manager think or act differently he is blantatly WRONG!
Now we are on or should start the phase two, after having got rid of deadwoods like Ireland, Bellamy, AQdebayor and Bridge.
Failing that, we hardly will ever become a World Dominant Club.

He's a weakness at set pieces though - they really need to work on him. With his height and physical presence he should be an asset.

It was Kolarov, but it happens right in front of Yaya, who does nothing.

Yaya is right smack bang in the middle, with Kolarov just where the ball is most likely to go. Nastasic runs ten yards to try & rescue the pathetic non efforts from Kolarov & Yaya. Why are they set up like that ?

Why not just have all the defenders all together in the key area, all looking after each other, so if one fucks up, his mate has a chance of rescuing it ? Why Yaya ?

Other than that, I thought he had a great game btw, right back to his best, although the lack of quality of the oppo has to be mentioned. (Even I was shouting abuse at Huddlestone for being so diabolically shite so I'd hate to have been a Spurs fan).

YaYa is like the big kid at school who if had a nasty streak would be a right handfull. He was happy jogging along with the slow coach Huddlestone, when he should be closing him down and running the legs from him, Th Garcia one smacked of you do that, I am off for the 3rd, Maicon was awsome out there, he got in his way when Bale got back, would loved to have seen Maicon there.That said he is gonna be awqsome against the rags he is saving it.....

funny thing is that he played at centre back for barca on more than one occasion, including i think the champions league final a few seasons back, you would think he would be able to defend better.

I think Ya Ya isnt doing it for us this season. Im sure his form will return but he hasnt reached the level of performance we saw last year.

Spot on, but we need to use him in the top third where he is dangerous to them not us. Must be our lack of defensive midfielders forcing him back to help Gazzer

I said the same thing about 5 times over but some fans see different things...I blame it on drugs.

It is the desire to play a system rather than play in a way that suits the players on the pitch which has isolated yaya most of this year, as it has isolated dzeko when started.

If you pick your best 11 players, then work out who goes where and how it can work, surely that has to be better than trying to hammer square pegs into round holes?

He should, but Yaya was identified as a defensive liability on many occasions last year.

Im all for criticising the players for not adapting, but if he genuinely isnt going to change, Mancini has to stop trusting him to do a job he is not going to do and play to his strengths, rather than expose his weaknesses. Absolutely the same goes for Dzeko.

I understand what you're saying but the thing is he absolutely can defend. There should be NO excuses.
