Keepers are especially susceptible to this kind of treatment and in particular English goalkeepers. We have seen David James and Paul Robinson on the end of some pretty nasty campaigns within the media and you could say their careers never quite recovered.
Are we worried that the next campaign of hate is making its way onto the shoulders of our very own Joe. How sad is it that when Joe became England’s number one the first thing I though was “ how log before the hate campaign starts” seems it hasn’t taken long.
IMO the problem Joe has which is no fault of his own is that he does not have any genuine competition for his place. I think we saw the best of Joe when he had Shay Given breathing down his neck two seasons ago. At England there isn’t really anybody, both Fraser Foster and John Ruddy are untried at the level and are they both really in the same class as Joe?? Is Joe as good as we think he is??
I personally think he has ever chance to be the best in the world but anymore showings like last night will only add fuel to the fires that he isn’t quite all that and cocky to boot. I hope for Joes sake that he has very broad shoulders because any slight mistakes after last nights performance are going to be under the microscope from now on.

Poor game in meaninghless friendly, that suits me fine saving his better performances for us

I can recall Joe being a bit dodgy prior to Dortmund but then he played the Dortmund game and was out of this world. That’s the sign of a great player and someone that doesn’t let things play on his mind. I think this is something that David James lacked.
Joe will be well aware of how poor he was last night but I can’t see the same kind of mistakes happening at City. Last night I saw again that there seems to be communication problems between him and Cahill. There were two occasions last night where they got in each other’s way and wasn’t Cahill injured before the Euros due to a similar "to me to you" type of moment. Iv not seen that at City but I guess it makes a difference playing with the same players week in and week out. If Cahill is going to play for England then that needs addressing ASAP.

One problem Joe will have when playing behind Cahill, is that Cahill is shit.

Absolutely right re Cahill and then they added Shawcross to the mix. Joe is a strong character and as SoF says he will know he had a poor game but that's gone now and he will just get back to training and work harder. He has a keeper coach that won't let him slack off as well which will be good for him so I don't think there is anything to worry about for Joe now matter if or how the press go after him
