Not saying we should sack Mancini or anything like that so haters find Somewhere else to hate.

But if he does get the sack at the end of the season (or leaves), what would be your choice?

Just curious as to which of the seemingly only two alternatives out there people would want for next season? I think it would be a tough choice, Mou with prem experience and almost guaranteed success (atleast short term) or Pep who might be a better fit personality wise but only done it with a pre-defined barca and we have no idea if he can do it in the prem.

Personally I am leaning towards Mou, think he is looking for a long term home now and has a style of play better suited for the prem imo. Although pep for the long haul if he can make it work in england would be overall better... Almost a toss-up i think so curious to see what you guys make of the possible situation we could be in if we don't do well in the league this season.

But really - id have Jose. Pep, although fantastic at FCB hasnt got the EPL experience that Mourinho has, and hes only ever been with one team. JM much less of a gamble.

Who ever plumps for Pep is taking a gamble. He had the best squad in modern history to manage. Admittedly, there would be some who would still fuck it up under that much pressure but he has no track record with any other club and no experience outside Spain. However, if he gets it right, the brand of football he plays would be an utter delight to see week in week out. It's a big if for me though. I suspect he is the perfect manager for Arsenal. A team with a recent tradition of good football and expectation have been lowered in the past few years.

Mourinho would win us the league and have us seriously challenging in the CL right out of the blocks. I would view him in the same way as I do Mario, I think he is entertaining but I wish he didnt represent out club. He comes with a circus and his way of winning leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth. I also suspect even if he was with us, he would jump ship to United the minute the job came up. His friendship with Ferguson would mean there would be constant speculation about him leaving which even if it unfounded, would be unsettling for all involved.

If I had a choice,and I haven't, I'd go for PG tips. Either would be a risk but I'd prefer grace over gratuitous.

There is a rumor in Barcelona that Soriano and Begiristain were after Maureen, before they appointed Pep. He was their first choice, but he refused to leave Inter, so they decided to have a go with Guardiola.

So even if it looks the obvious choice, Maureen might be the man we are after. Great manager, but shit character.

He certainly had an interview in which he promised to change his style but the board reckoned that the fans would not buy it.

pep. for numerous reasons both on and off the pitch.

i'd say pep. He'd at least change the style of play. jose is more interested in telling everyone how great he is and interviews.

still'd prefer both of mancini and his systems.

The trouble with Jose is that he'll do a smash and grab. Sure we'll win a few trophies, the football will be effective and relentless, but, fundementally dull and pragmatic. He will demand total cotrol but won't use it to build for the future. And when he goes after a two or three years the club will be hollowed out.

The trouble with Pep is that he's only ever worked at Barca, and successful as he was, he merely brought to fruit the seeds that Johann Cruyff sowed many years earlier. Still, the thought is that if you want a legacy, he's your man. A definate gamble and we would have to be patient and reading many of the posts on here that isn't going to happen.

As for Jurgen Klopps, he's done a great job at Dortmund, they're one of the best sides we've played in a long time. But, how much is down to him and how much to the wider management/recruitment staff? I confess I have no idea, still might be worth a punt - but,see Pep above. (Mind you the Dortmund hierarchy have slagged us off something rotten, getting him would be massive V sign to the smug bastards)

I know Bobby isn't going to stay with us forever, but I do feel that he is trying to build for the future as well as trying to win trophies now. Personally, I wouldn't call him a failure just yet. For example, it seems he was very frustrated by the summer transfer activity - too slow, and not the players of his choice. (Gets my vote)

I do have a soft spot for what Martinez did for Swansea, and what he's doing for Wigan. A much better outfit thab when Jewell and Bruce had them.
I think Steve Clarke is doing a great job at WBA - and being Jose's assistant must have learnt a thing or two.


Maybe we need a thread on the type of manager we want/need and then look around for who fits the bill.
