That'd be ace, though it sort of clashes with my 'support' for Philadelphia Union.
A New York derby would add some fire to the league.
I think that video only works in your region, mate. Give us a synopsis.

Haha. Cheers!
Any specifics? When? Where? (Red Bulls are Jersey-based so Long Island would make sense).

Can we do that as a football club?

It's Grant Wahl a U.S. sports reporter who is basically one the few that covers football in the mainstream media. Says that City and three other groups are interested in being the second team in NY. First mention of it was about a month ago after doing a little digging on some U.S. sites. It some reports it is mentioned that PSG is one of the other three. I know how most feel on here when the press mentions a source . Over here it's a little different. That is especially the case with Wahl. With him it will most likely be 95% true. As no one else in the media over here has the contacts that he does.

Why couldn't we? Chivas from the Mexican league does. They have Chivas USA in the MLS. Barcelona was close to starting a team in Miami a few years ago.

I suppose it's not a problem if it's outside the parent club's FA. For some reason I thought it was frowned on for owners in England to have a second team, but the Sheikh already owned a team when he bought City so I must be mistaken.

chris- the union are wank! and i love them.. i know they are just a few years old, but they seem to be selling any decent player they get... i'm more of a D.C. United fan as I fancy Ben Olsen who coached me when i was like 13 years old.
but a city owned team in NYC would be boss.
def good for football here in the states.
nyc darby day would be amazing as well.
as for the video, they are excited about a new MLS team
they are talking about the salary cap in the MLS and how that might not work for a city owned team, cause we like to splash the cash
i read an article a few days ago on this, i think from newsnow...
sounds like NYC will surely get another MLS team.
just a matter of who buys/starts it.

Thanks. What about the possibility of us treating it as a feeder club and/or farming out young prospects and/or the likes of Guidetti? That would work well for everyone concerned.

Saw something recently that dippy spice might buy/start a franchise as his next endeavour. Sounds like there's space for a team and it fits with all the pitches we've been building for communities. Still not convinced what the fan base/cash opportunity is unless you go for Latinos. In which case a southern state team would surely make more sense.

I speak more Spanish than English whenever I go to NYC.

It's an open secret that the NY Cosmos are coming back (I believe in 2016) - negotiations are pretty close to wrapped up. I had also heard that Beckham was interested in ownership, but I think it would be a great benefit for City to buy a team.
I don't have an MLS team i support, so if this turns out to be true, I'd jump on the bandwagon.

The Cosmos are already back. They are playing D2 next year. They have gone away from talking about moving up MLS. Beckham will not be involved with any franchise in New York. His contract allows for him to start a franchise with a $10 million entry fee but excludes starting New York. The rumored locations for Beckham are Miami, Orlando, Las Vegas and San Diego. Don Garber has made it clear that they entry fee for NY2 will be $100 million.

really? obv i have old news. So there's no talk that the Cosmos are the team joining MLS in 2016? I could've sworn I had read that somewhere as recently as last week.
And isn't Beckham's contract up at the end of the year? So he can do pretty much whatever he wants, can't he?

NY City would be a cool as fuck name. Stick them in the retro sky blue with maroon and navy trimmings and we're good to go.

The Cosmos are playing in the NASL in the second half of next season. NASL has switched to a split season for next year. Right now they are trying to focus on putting a D2 team out. Yes his playing contract is done. But the discounted expansion fee doesn't not expire. That discounted expansion fee does not apply to NY or LA. As far as the Cosmos they are struggling putting together an D2 team. They will make a big announcement and then news will slowly leak out that what was announced won't happen.
