The heir to 'aggressive walking'

Postby Alioune DVToure » Fri Dec 21, 2012 2:13 pm

Raul Meireles - now of Fenerbahce - has received an 11-game ban. Having been accused of making a 'homosexual gesture', he allegedly spat at the ref on his way off the pitch.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012 ... ree-turkey

Any ideas as to what a 'homosexual gesture' might be? Did he offer someone a handjob mid-game?

I wish we had a Turkish poster to shed some light on this.

Just watched this on YouTube.

Don't think it was a second yellow and don't actually think he spat at the ref.

I think it's a fair enough yellow but I didn't see the ref react to being spat at.

Meireles comes across as a right twat, though, so I wouldn't put it past him.

I had one of the games on Sunday. We were killing them for the first 15 minutes, but without scoring. Then within 5 minutes the following happens.

1. The get a corner. I'm marking a guy and we both push and shove a little. the ref blows, the opponent thinks he's gotten the free kick against him and is flabbergasted when it turns out that they have gotten a penalty. 0-1.

2. Blatant offside. The linesman flags, the ref ignores it. 0-2.

3. Our captain put in a hard, but fair challenge. Straight red.

4. One of our players reacts to the red card by saying "Come on ref, you're killing the game" (without using abusive language). Yellow card. He then get's another yellow for being to slow in walking up to the ref to receive his yellow. He's off.

5. The opponent scores one more in the first half.

6. We score 1-3 within a couple of minutes in to the second half.

7. A few minutes later one of their players does a very obvious "Maradona hand of God" in our penalty area. The ref doesn't see it. Our (vice) captain. Goes over to talk to the ref and hits his hands together to emphasize that it was handball. he gets a straight red and a 4 match ban for violent conduct.

With 35 minutes left of the game we were down to 8 men, but somehow managed to not concede and actually won the second half ;-)
But it's the worst ref I've ever had. We're quite a nice team, but somehow ended up with three players sent off, despite not swearing or using abusive language (it's very sensitive over here since the terrible incident with the linesman a few weeks back).

At 28 secs, although you can't see him spit his head goes back and then so does the ref's (left eye), clear sign that something happened. Couple of seconds later the ref his wiping it off.

Dirty horrible twat.

The ref doesn't wipe anything off??? You mean 10 seconds later when the ref wipes his brow?
There another angle on YouTube where you can actually see nothing comes out of his mouth.

Ban should be a lot longer. Ref should have kicked him in the bollocks.

Re 'homosexual gesture' I didn't know that was a crime. Does that mean if you are a bit camp, you keep getting carded until you stop it ?

Link to that one mate, you've got fuck all else to do ;-)

Edit: From this closer view it certainly looks like it with the ref looking completely shocked, as if he's been spat on:

Totally feel your pain Nooly. Had that sort of crap on more than one occasion. We played Man U*****d Supporters' Club a while back. The ref turned up fifteen minutes after k.o. (his bike pedal had broken, the fat shit), we weren't too impressed, but there was much backslapping and joviality from the scum, most of whom he clearly knew. It was 0-0 on his arrival. We went in at ht 2 up.

Second half, the guy just turns weird - every fifty fifty decision goes their way, and every 60/40, and 80-20. He gets worse after they score. We manage to hold on til 90 odd minutes, but the ref just plays on and on. Cue a melee in our area, a few desperate goal-line clearances from our lot; we're battling valiantly, determined to hold on to a hard earnt three points - shot fired in smacks a guy who's on the floor trying to get up out of the cold sucking mud, twatting him on the arm and knocking him over. Ref gives a penalty and sends him off. One cb down, they score the penalty. You know the script - the ref played a strikingly familiar FIFTEEN MINUTES extra, and we lose three-two with ten men due to a joke decision.

He started his watch when he started reffing, not taking into account the fact that his morbidly obese, recalictrant ass had waddled on quarter of an hour into the first half. Which we were also telling him might be the reason for the Fergietime. Collossal prick. A common thief at best.

self indulgent ramblings apart - looked like Mereiles (sp?) was being a prick, and spat while he was angry, across/away from the ref, whilst ranting at him, in his face. It was probably a bit congealed from that side mouth gam, and some went sidewards and caught the ref. You can see him do a little wipe on his face as if he's trying to justify a stray spec of spittle. Neother of them exactly covered in glory there.

Don't give them an opportunity to send you off, and you'll most likely not get sent off. I can be bloody horrible to people on a football field, and I've not been sent off once.

The badge kissing I thought was because it was his boyhood club and he's played for them for his entire career, no?
