Anyone else see Shrek yesterday when a perfectly reasonable decision went against him? He screamed, directly at the ref (as usual) and in close up in front of millions of men, women and children on national TV:

"Fuckin' Prick'

Now I make no apology for printing the words here as it is apparently acceptable to the FA, the media and of course Taggart, busy diverting attention to softie Van Persie.

Back-track 2 weeks and Gareth Barry makes a one-off out-of-character comment to 4th official Mad Mark Clattenburg, because he was urging the ref to blow for a United victory. Private comment, 1 match ban.

What an absolute joke the authorities are.

Barry called the ref a cheat, which is a much worse insinuation, but I do think it's odd that nothing ever gets mentioned about Rooney

Did he? I was under the impression that it was Clattenburg, the fourth official, he had some choice words for.

The old piss can could clearly be seen screaming 'fucking homer' at the ref, that's accusing him of cheating, is it not? Anything likely to be done about that?

Yes, the ref will now be barred from being the ref for a rag game until he learns his lesson.

I asked Ian Ladyman on Twitter to comment on why Rooney can swear aggressively and directly at the ref with impunity. Needless to say no reply.

I've stopped noticing when Shrek swears at officials, seen it so many times it's lostr its effect on me now

I agree with that. It's a blessing for Rooney that he's incapable of abstract thoughts. He sticks to basic swearing and gets away with it.

I also think it's a matter of pride for the refs. As a referee you get taught to disregard most of the stuff and if they complain about basic swears to the fa, it might be the case that they are showing weakness.

The way I understand the essence of the law is that you are allowed to swear when speaking to the ref but not swear at him, i.e. foul language is ok on the park but not directed when directed at an official. "That's shit, ref" is allowed "Fuck off ref, thats not a foul" is not allowed.
