How confident are you?

Postby Piccsnumberoneblue » Sun Jan 20, 2013 9:25 am

Many Blues I know are supremely confident that we will overhaul the rags lead and successfully defend our title. And I mean SUPREMELY confident.
I am of the view that the shite will drop points but we will not be able to string a decent enough run of results together to trouble them.
However after last week's comfortable unpicking of Arsenal, and the way we are putting lesser teams like Fulham to the sword I am more minded to think we can pull them in. Even yesterday chatting to a fellow Blue, he gave the impression it was a mere formality that we'd romp it.
So, how confident are you? On whatever scale you feel apprpriate.

I don't get why you can't be confident. We have them once more and a win there can cut it to 4. Nearly half a season to go and we wrangled them back in from a larger deficit last year in about 5-6 games. HAVE SOME CONFIDENCE BLUES. we look fine right now and that's with out our engine yaya. Hell i still believe we're going to win the FA cup as well.

Not confident but that's what being a pessimist is isn't it? But before John gets on to me I had better qualify that.I am confident that we are playing well and better than we were in the first ten or so games of the season.I am also confident that we will finish off the season pretty well as we are certainly capable of beating the top teams in the league when we play them.

But I am not confident that the scum will drop all the points so that we can overhaul them.3 points against us needs to be a given but where will they be dropping the rest. Some for sure just like logic/experience says we will drop a few as well but I fear the balance will not be enough for us to get past them.

They are not a great side are they but somehow they have achieved their best EVER points total at this stage of the season.Recent games,in fact many games have seen them looking distinctly average but winning. It should catch up with them but that's where the pessimist in me comes out again. In reality though I don't think about it too much like so many on here seem to constantly. Our job is to win the next game and then the one after that and IF the scum slip up we are there to pass them.Just by winning week after week will put pressure on them but they are much better focused than last year where I think their arrogance got them what they deserved, namely 2nd behind us.I don't think that will happen again hence I don't think we will quite make it.

But if we do happen to win every game from now ...............

They only have to lose one match where we win (like today against Spurs) for us to be a derby win away from one point behind them (are you confident the RAGS can do a double over us? Because I'm not). We are very much in the hunt for the title.

Last year we won on goal difference, this season they've hugely strengthened by signing RVP whereas all the players we signed were no better than the ones we already had.

We can still do it, but that means winning at OT, the Lane, and worst of all - Goodison.
We need them to start dropping points now though. Give in mind they've already beaten Us,pool and Chelsea away and Arsenal will just fold as they always do.

I'll feel a lot more confident though if they drop points today.

Our midfield is playing well without Yaya, something that didn't really happen last season. We're showing signs of good form as a result of this, even with our strikers not picking up goals too often recently. Having said that, Aguero was on fire in the match where he was injured so again another good sign. There's lots to be optimistic about if we concentrate on our own game and let other results sort themselves out.

No way is it a formality and I am not confident that we can do it. It is more out of hope and that dream will live on until points dictate that we cannot overhaul them. We've just got to take every game as it comes and hope that United drop points. The reality is that they have to lose 3 games that we have to win. United have only lost 2 all season so there's nothing to suggest that they'll fall apart in the second half. Link this with very favourable ref'ing decisions and it's hard to see them losing too many points.

The hope though, as Mancini alluded to, is for us to be within about 4 points going into the Derby. If we can beat them there (big ask, I know) then it'll put them under pressure going into the last 6 games. Looking at those games I'd suggest they've got much the harder run-in starting with Stoke away and includes an away trip to Arsenal, a home draw against Chelsea and finishes with Brom away on the last day of the season.

There's still many twists and turns to come, let's just hope that they are not marred by inconsistencies by officials.

Double would be nice.

I'm STILL high from May 13th. The players since the defeat at Sunderland have finally come back down to earth and realise they will have to work at 100% for every minute of every match to be in with a chance. Rags are really determined this year after hahahhahahhahahahahhaha May 13th AND they have Van Persie. It's going to be very, very close again. They haven't had a tough patch yet. We could easily lapse into champions-itis again. I had us at 5/1 last year. This year, money staying in my pocket. If we carry on with the same attitude and effort for the rest of the season we'll romp it. But humans, even superfit superblues, are annoyingly unpredictable.
50/50 in short.

Not very.

I've no doubt they will drop 8 pts, but I don't see us not fucking any games up rest of the year.

It's not a formality, but we're a fair way off them right now.

Just to point out that even though they are scoring billions of goals they are only +1 on us in terms of GD. A minor point but one that was so important last season.

Which points to their shite defending, which brings up another point, we have only let in goals in ONE match in our last four league games.

Edit: last four league games, not six. Three clean sheets in a row in the league.

If this issue was raised with mates in the pub or at the Etihad or at away games the answer would be of course ! the simple reason being City and bobby manc are bang back in the groove playing solid and scoring goals. However the same issue raised on a forum will bring a different viewpoint because the audience is far wider and diverse , thats how forums are. Last weeks result at the Emirates was immense , absolutely huge ! Also everything will hinge on the derby at the swamp imho plus we have a lovely run in on paper. Lastly lets get a result at Stoke next week and go for the double ....... we do afterall have the best squad in England ;)

It was 3 goals against Norwich though. However, 4 wins with 3 successive clean sheets since the Sunderland game is a decent return.

I was confident...very confident on the last day of last season. The bastards aged me by 20 years. I will stick to being nervous and hoping we continue our good run with each game as it comes.

As far as I am concerned our goal difference is better than theirs or at least it is assuming we catch up the 7 points. For us to do that we have to win 2 of our games and they have to lose 2.That's + 2 for us and - 2 for them on top of the current situation.

That's the point I was making Doug. I'm not banking on anything but we could be 4 points behind and have equal or better GD come 6 o'clock tonight. When it comes down to it, GD counts as 1 point.

Confident that we can can catch them up. Confident that they will drop points. Confident we have the squad and the ability to do so. Confident we have the mentality under pressure to keep pushing on.

Deffo mate. Today we can sit back and watch and hope the rag cunts come unstuck under the pressure we are putting them under plus they have the huge distraction of the CL in a few weeks. One game at a time for us and 7 points is manageable .....4 points this evening would be fantastic ;)

I think we need to get some points back pdq. (I mean today really) The reason I am not loads confident is that they have got points from their toughest fixtures, quite undeservedly but nevertheless they are there in the bag. At Chelsea, City and Scouse they were second best every time, and with a mixture of outrageous refereeing and extreme good fortune they have nine points.
But we look slightly more likely to reel them in now than we did a few weeks ago.
If we can stay close and then beat them at the sty, they will shit themselves.

I wouldn't bank on Spurs getting owt. If anything it'll be the 'smaller' sides who'll nick points of them I feel.
