A team of four men 'thaw ' out Manchester City Football ground with braziers. They started in the morning and worked well into the night. Straw was laid on the ground after thawing out to prevent the pitch re-freezing. January 1953

The first match I ever went to I stood on that exact terracing, to the left of the tunnel, next to the Platt Lane. Don't remember that bloke though....

It never went away. We spent billions each year importing it from Ukraine. Better to buy it than make it yourself and deal with powerful trade unions.
