The Great One speaks:

Sir Alex Ferguson has rounded on the "idiots" who criticised David de Gea following the mistake that allowed Tottenham Hotspur to draw with Manchester United at White Hart Lane last Sunday.

Gary Neville and Alan Hansen were two of the more prominent critics of the Spaniard. Neville, a former United captain, spoke on Sky Sports on Sunday and Monday about how the goalkeeper's error had cost United two points, while Hansen used his newspaper column to claim that De Gea should be dropped if he makes another mistake.

Asked what Ferguson, whose team host Fulham in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, thought of the general criticism, the United manager said: "I am not getting into that at all. You have to listen to some idiots in the game."

Gary Neville is officially an idiot. The Great One says so.

And, regarding his lino outburst: ' Asked if he had been merely giving an opinion, Ferguson said: "That is what I have put in my letter exactly. But you know the FA. You never know. It is one of these things. We are high profile. They panic when the press … Some of the headlines were: 'Ferguson may be charged by the FA.' You have your part to play in that because the profile of me is such that the FA naturally panic as soon as the press criticise them. That is what you will find. That is why they have sent me a letter. There is no doubt about that. Whether I think it is unfair or not doesn't matter to them really at this point. I just think it is more about me than what I have said."

Those cruel bastrds at the FA are victimising The Great One. They should treat him fairly.

Although this looks like Taggart's losing it (again), I see it, with Wenger's recent views, as the old guard coming together. There is method in their madness, I think. They are coming out and attacking anything, and everything, that doesn't go there way and maybe they are forcing the issues behind the scenes as well.

I think you would be amazed at just how much goes on behind the scenes. Clubs meet and come together at almost all levels, from CEOs to groundsmen.

They should stop interviewing him whilst he's pissed! Still, that only leaves when he's asleep....

I wouldn't mate, just like Taggart's yearly party for his boys. Hasn't Martinez declined the invitation now?

If they interview him when he's asleep they need to take a pillow with them - obviously for him to rest his head on rather than to hold over his face because I would never suggest anyone held a pillow over his ruddy cheeked features until his eyes bulged.

Totally agree. He'd only end up looking like Moyes, anyhow.

I think this could be taken as minor evidence that Neville's not that biased as some make him out to be.

Like when he was the first of the pundits to break the fold and say that we no longer were a bunch of egos but a team?

You come of as quite benign though.

I never ever thought i would come to the conclusion that Gary Neville would be the best and most forthright football TV pundit ever on our TV screens . He has without doubt for me broke the mould , he is a breath of fresh air ,he says it as it is and doesnt hold back and certainly knows his stuff. Maybe its me but he deffo criticises the rags more than any pundit ever has done , maybe taggert has come to the conclusion that Neville is now a thorn in his side ?

PS i hated the cunt when he played for the rags.

I honestly feel that Rat Boy hasthe inside track on what is expected from the Swamp this season and his little tantrum is a sign of how the pressure is affecting their attitude.

I'm both pissed off and hoping at the same time.

When I say tantrum I mean in the sense of letting things slip. I'm sure you've read the article linked below and see this as Neville getting frustrated at what happened in the final minutes against Spurs. For me, he gives away little snippets of how United tick during his analysis, especially when they lose out in some way. He is great at the analysis but you always know that he still has an affinity to the Rags. It's only natural.

Thanks. Yes, I don't watch Sky but he gets a lot of good press from City fans, generally. A bit like with Stuart Brennan, I couldn't do it, but fair play if they can.

He was a true cunt of a player but I think he's managed to distance himself quite a bit from his playing career. He's still a United fan, it shines through from time to time, but I really don't care about that, because as you say he's not afraid to call it the way he sees it, even if it's negative for his own club.

And as you say, he's a breath of fresh air from the other mouldy lot who wields cliches like their life depended on it.

I would suggest it's a snippet of how any top professional would think. However, most of the pundits are so bland, they'd never admit to any form of cheating or bending the rules.

Well, I keep saying, if I'm humbly allowed a take on in this sensible and slightly subtle debate on raggish-hood, that I equally enjoy Ratboy's quality at punditry (as a quite refreshing change on the average incompetence of the usual suspects) and dwell no doubt on what his miserable heart beats for.
It certainly doesn't take the skilled measuring efficiency of a Finn Chief Engineer to assess that sad reality on "Once a rag, forever rag!" Let alone when the Rag in question has been the flagholder of the Fergie's dirty cheating arrogance for such an extended time.

I never paid much attention and respect to all pro pundits of the world, being well convinced that their are all sycophant bitches at every latitude of the football world, and I always preferred either to enjoy my own self punditry built on ages of passion for the Game and share opinions with my self elected private own pundits, like several of You my beloved fellow cunts, based on the acquittance and understanding of their solid competence and passion for the game.
Nonetheless I am not shy to admit that almost all the analysis on the English football I actually enjoyed in recent times came from Neville.

once said that, the most precious gem of the thread comes from the Linky offered by Beefy, who I salute, grateful for bringing to my attention this state of the art tweet:
Fellow professional footballer Ryan Taylor of Newcastle United was outraged so much at a Young dive versus Aston Villa, he blurted out on Twitter,"Ashley Young is an absolute DISGRACE. He’s the biggest cheat in the league. His antics are a joke."
