9 pts - Surmountable or Title Gone?

Postby AG7 » Sun Feb 03, 2013 7:30 pm

Forget what we have done so far, we all know that ... let's shift our focus instead to what's left now, and if we can do something in those remaining 13 games:

Here's the comparison of games remaining for them vs us ... I am highlighting (in bold) the most difficult games for them, which is Away fixtures to top 8 teams. (Reason I am adding the 8th team in tough fixtures and not just top 7 is because it's Swansea, who have been playing very well and this year they have already drawn away to them and we all know what happened to us there last year, so an important fixture I'd say) ... now look at how many 'tough' games they have left ... vs how many we've got ...

Their Fixtures:

H - Everton
A - QPR
H - Norwich
A - West Ham
H - Reading
A - Sunderland
H - City
A - Stoke
H - Villa
A - Arsenal
H - Chelsea
H - Swansea
A - West Brom

Our Fixtures:

A - Saints
H - Chelsea
A - Villa
H - Wigan
A - Everton
H - Newcastle
A - United
H - West Brom
A - Spurs
H - West Ham
A - Swansea
A - Reading
H - Norwich

Now answer the question ... yes it's easy to say, we win one game over them so that's 3 pts back and all they need to do is lose 2 more games and that's 9 pts ... issue is they need to lose 2 more than how many we lose (or draw) here on in.

So the question again ... 9 pts - surmountable or title gone?

PS. Even if you add Home games in 'tough' section, we both have to play Chelsea at home ... and they'll have to play us at Home ... still doesn't change much. Reason is we have done fuck all this season against tougher teams (Home or Away both) ... apart from winning at Emirates, we have not managed to win anywhere else, all others are draws, be it liverpool, home or away, everton at home, chelsea away, arsenal home, stoke away and lost the derby at home ... where as they have won all their tough games, except against spurs.

These folk are entitled to their opinion. It doesnt need people like you being abusive to them because they hold an opinion - one which incidentally, I also disagree with.

Tell them why you think they are wrong, try make them see the error of their ways, show us why you believe. But if "fuck off" is the best you can do, you're better off not bothering at all

fuck me to the vermin ever play anyone decent? its time to round the wagons they've by miles got the easier fixtures but we need to do all we can to push them to the end. I know we should be saying never say never cos of last season but in my heart its gone.

We can only get 92 points and i don't see us winning all 4 of those aways that you've picked out so imagine we lose 2 thats 86 and they only have to win their home games and they're almost home.

I would say it is do able to claw back 9 points but on this seasons showing I'd say it was unlikely to happen.

We shouldn't be 9 points behind If you compare squads.

I'm sure that is the kind if response you wanted rather than the Tourettes you got of Tim Howard above

Whatever we had last season has gone. Too many resting on their laurels thinking that they don't have to work anymore?? You don't become a bad team over night but we just dont have any fire. Too many way below the high standereds they set last year. You can maybe carry a couple of players who's form is indifferent but we have 7 or 8 who's form is indiiferent and then add people like Nasri who IMO is a fraud. I do hope we have a big clear out in the summer and get some fresh hungry faces in as it's gone for me this season.

Assuming we beat them, as that has to be a given, we need them to drop 6 more points than we do. I think the next two could be tough for them - Everton at home and QPR away. There's a good chance they'll drop at least two points there. Arsenal away is an odd one. Should be tough, but I suspect they'll walk it. The other tricky ones will be the ones around the Madrid game. I also expect them to beat Madrid, so that could be another two games that will take their concentration.

In short, will they drop 6 points in the 12 games - yes. That still means 30 points out if a possible 36 which would be a great return but would be on line with what they've got so far.

However, that would mean we would have to win every game. Game by game it's possible, but I don't see us, or anyone, winning 13 league games on the run. Everyone keeps saying that they've been lucky and are winning without playing well, so it's quite possible that they'll do worse in the run in than they have to date. However, it still leaves little margin for error from us, with some tough games coming up.

If we were to win it from here, I'd say it was an ever bigger achievement than last season.

I think this could've been in one of the "10pts threads" but here we go. yet more difficult position and we're gonna need a miracle if we want to win it.
A MIRACLE. that's what we need. and we don't control our own destiny which pisses me off a lot, all we can do is to hope they will fuck up and how likely is that after last year?

Sophomore slump for sure totally complacent in the summer and worse on the pitch. Amazingly I have felt that mancini has tried to mix things up at times but creativity is not his strong suit.

I think the title is gone sadly. We fucked it off early and oftenly this season.

In my heart i think the title has gone. But in my head it says 3 draws for them and 3 wins in the same period for us and we are just 3 points behind so in reality it's not insurmountable just very improbable.

Put it this way. On form.. If it was the other way round I'd still fancy them to win it.

It will be 15 points by time we go to the swamp.

They will probably embarrass us their aswell.

This summer is going to be fucking great. It will be 20 this 20 fucking that for months. Cunts.

Half our team came to us to win the league and now they have done it none of them give 2 fucks.

Of course it's gone. It went a long time ago. No matter if they lose a couple, our team has more Sunderland/Qpr type efforts in it, and won't be capable of taking advantage. Very poor season so far.

2nd season was always going to be tough. Last season our attack minded approach to games caught teams by surprise, this season teams were better prepared to negate the threat we posed from the start of the season. Don't underestimate the importance of this, I believe this is why Mancini looked at 3 at the back in pre season to try to keep one step ahead, but we all know it's not been a formation we've been able to make work.

For me it's the FA cup that we need to focus on as much as the league. Winning the FA cup and finishing 2nd would be another excellent season in my opinion. I'd rather beat the rags into 2nd place in the league of course, but it's very difficult to see where we can pick up points at their expense.

I don't believe it's the doom and gloom some people seem to feel, it's a very tough league we shouldn't get carried away with our recent success, although at the same time it's natural to want to kick on. The fact that we are 6 points (is it?) ahead of Chelsea and the rags have had the best start by any team in the premier league shows we are technically doing ok.

I think they`ll draw at Stoke as well. Still believe something could happen. If the (alleged) rapist gets an injury it will be very different.

Good post. Level-headedness is under-rated.

We're 7 ahead of Chelsea btw.

We weakened our squad last summer ditching Johnson for Sinclair, and de Jong for Garcia - although Garcia is growing in stature game by game, at this stage of the season the necessity of his settling in has hampered our challenge. Scum got RVP, who was a main target of ours. We weakened again this last window selling Mario.

It's a big ask before you even look at the current points difference.
