Dennis Suarez

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Dennis Suarez

Postby carl_feedthegoat » Fri Feb 08, 2013 6:23 pm

I hope we do not lose this guy as I think he is good enough to be at least on our bench - if we lose him then Ill be fucked off with Mancini.

Suarez joined City at the same time as Balotelli but has made just two appearances since, with both coming in the Capital One Cup, and the 19-year-old has admitted he may be forced to look for more regular first-team action elsewhere as he feels his progression is stalling.

"Mancini is giving me opportunities this year, although I haven't yet debuted in the Premier League," he said.

"I think this year I need to be more or less a first-team player or I will have to look for a solution by way of a transfer. I don't think I'm doing much in the reserve league.

"You play reserve games every weekend but it's not like playing in the Segunda or Segunda Division B.

"When I was at Celta at 16, I was playing for the reserves, competing against 30-year-olds. It's not the same. Here they're all 20-year-old kids.

"It's not that I won't improve but I think I've progressed past that stage and now, if I can't play in the first team, I'll have to look elsewhere."
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

I did actually post this in the 'bollox' (y'cunt), but whilst I am sure he means 'loans' rather than 'transfers', we ended up having to persuade Guidetti to sign a new contract (which he did but we don't know what's in it) rather than him just progress through from the EDS to the 1st team squad. We could easily have lost him & may still. Suarez & these other lads will get offers if we allow the same situation to develop.

We need to make them feel part of what is happening at City & want to be involved or we will lose them on the cheap. Just farming them out isn't enough imo.

The youngsters barely get a look-in these days. We need something other than the EDS thing, it's a shame we can't go back to a Reserve teams in which they played alongside and against experienced players that would bring them along.

This is one time we should follow the arsenal trend and be playing a team of mixed youth and seasoned pros in league cup and giving them the chance to impress in a serious competition.if and when they perform then there's got to be the dangling carrot of minutes in premier games or wasting time and money on youth set up is pointless.

So far it's been pretty understandable that not many of these lads have been involved, as most of them haven't been good enough, but some of these lads coming through are a level above what we were used to in the past. Guidetti came through at a time when we were just building a side & callenging for the title at the same time. It was difficult to find a spot for him. Now things have moved on.

I don't blame Bob at all for not using these lads in the past, but we need to start considering this from now on, as we are starting to produce genuine potential City players.

We have to find the right balance.

Where would he have fitted last year when we were fighting for the title? Who would you have dropped to get him in a game?

Serious question.

If it's a question to me, then the answer would be: nowhere & nobody, as he wasn't good enough, as I said in my post.

He is getting to the point where he is becoming good enough & many others will follow. Time to change policy & start to include them in the future plans for the 1st team squad.

Extremely difficult when you are trying to cement a place in top few league teams as we have been for the past few years but once we are there regularly we have to start giving these guys a chance.

It wasn't aimed at anybody inparticular, was just interested in the scope we had to play somebody who hasn't really proved whilst trying to establish ourselves at the top. It's all inter-mingled with various other situations going on in the background but when it comes to the youngsters coming through they will now have to prove exceptional to even get on the bench.

With the likes of Yaya, Big Dave et al it would be difficult for a great p trying to player to break through, nevermind a youngster trying to prove himself. And I'm alright with that at the moment. Once we prove to be regular contenders at the top and have earned that reputation for winning regardless then we can start to bring them through, but only when proving themselves first also.

Let's say in the next 3 games that we struggle and take say 5 points while the scum get 9! Yeah I know negative thinking but we would be 13 points behind by then.Do we then make some changes to have a look at certain players over the final games (Suarez,Guidetti,Rekik,Lopes) or do we battle on hoping for a miracle and at least try to ensure 2nd place with the "best" team we can field?

To be honest mate, no we don't; not for me. In that scenario we keep on going until there is no other possible outcome and then ensure we have secured second. We are pating these players a lot of money and unless they've given up we play them because they have proved themselves as very good players. If there's a problem then we use the best we have got. Once we are out/secured, then give them a shot.

Do you think Saurez has what it takes? His game against Villa was far from convincing but it was only one game. To see a players real virtues they need a decent run in the side so one game does not count, for me.

He had an ineffective game v Villa but that didn't cost the team. Nastasic on the other hand was involved in all of their goals & had a nightmare.

It didn't stop Mancini from playing him over & over again, in a key position. He even debuted him at the Bernabau beforehand. A mistake or two from an attacking midfielder rarely costs the team like a mistake from a centre back. If he can trust one of his young signings to play in Madrid without any experience whatsoever, then he can start trusting some of our best academy lads to play some of the lesser games here, if not this season then next.

If Suarez played for the rags, he would get games next season & by the end he would be a fully fleged member of their squad. Our academy is the most important part of the future of the club & it's now time to start using it.

I want Bob to do that next season or possibly even this season if the chance arises. I have no reason to assume he won't start doing it next season at least, but if he doesn't, I want him to go.

I agree with that.We are not the side we used to be where anyone with any talent just gets in as we are in serious challenging mode for all trophies and should never let up.

As for whether he is good enough you really never know until he plays a bunch of games at the right level. He definitely has the raw talent but even in reserve games he just seems to fall short for me.He can look the best player on the pitch with a silky touch, moving great with the ball but then I reflect after the games and think he just didn't quite deliver or dominate enough. In the odd cameo we have seen from him so far I have felt he was slightly overawed and intimidated so he would need a few games to get over that imo.

The only way he, & City, can find out if he or any other lad with potential is going to make it at our club, is to give them some opportunities to get experience of playing at the top level & work with/ learn from the Silvas etc. Not suggesting them keeping top players out of the side every week, but by getting a few mins in place of the ones who aren't quite delivering or are tired or carrying injuries. I don't know if Suarez will become another Silva but I recon he could have played next to him for half a game rather than Nasri on several occasions & not done any worse. One killer pass or a nice goal could suddenly transform a kid into a viable player.

If he is clearly out of his depth both City & Suarez will soon see it & he can pop off on loan with no feeling that he's been ignored.

We have to find the right balance with this if we are serious about building future teams from the academy. If young players are going to sign with us, they need to believe we will give them every chance (& find them another club if we don't use them).
