Colin Bell

I have been watching city a long time & jack Rodwell today reminded me of the young Colin Bell who joined us from Bury in the mid 60's. others have been saddled with the NEW Colin Bell title & failed to live up to the billing. If he stays fit now he could do on today's showing

No pressure on Rodwell, then....

I was so pleased today that Rodwell looked as good as he did as it reflected what I had seen in training,i.e. a player free from injury desperately wanting to play and show what he's got. Not sure about the Bell bit though.I hoped such crazy comparisons would end with MJ.

Rodwell brought a dynamism to the team today, along with a goal threat. Was most impressed.

Hopefully Rodwell will stay out of the clubs & develop his career not piss it up a wall like Johnson did

I hope so I really do. Just feel any comparisons to King Col at this point may be a bit premature. Lad did well no doubt about it and was reassuring to see. Just hope he has a good run without injury.

Hang on folks, he did very well today - but the new Colin Bell based on 55mins? Let's see him after 55 games.

Don't think we'll ever see another Colin Bell come along again.

Blue tinted spectacles aside, King Colin was magnificently unique. However, with any luck, in about fifteen years time, people might be saying about a special youngster emerging from the Academy "he could well be the new Jack Rodwell".

I just hope Rodwell makes a monstrously big name and extended career for himself with City, in his own distinctive and special way, which would qualify him as being of legend status.

I'd be happy enough with that.

His energy in the last two games have been very impressive and the drive that he potentially will bring to the heart of our midfield could be very exciting indeed. To me he can offer something we been missing from our midfield in a long time.....DRIVE. Lets all hope he can stay injury free.........so far, so good, fingers crossed for this talent

I only said he looked like the young Bellie who joined city at 20 in 1966 didn't say he looked like the player CB turned out to be.

He will never be even good enough to lace Bell's boots technically in any aspect of the game, but he could end up technically as good as a Roy K**ne or similar moderately skilled, reasonably athletic player & then it's a case of whether he develops the same nous & football intelligence.

RK, had little of that at Rodwell's age & no more technical ability.

Bell had 5 times the ability of both put together.

He was bloody great. I know it wasn't his debut but it felt like his first performance for us. I don't care that it's taken a while. Rather that way round than McManaman style! (What a debut that was tho!)

Rodwell's been around a bit longer than MJ had at the time, and Gollum probably got him pretty well disciplined at Everton. I've seen him shopping with his Mrs a couple of times and with any luck she prefers hot chocolate to Jaegerbombs.

In another thread some distinguished posters lamented the general lack of quality central midfielders but some also had high hopes of Rodwell. The mood was to dispense with chuggers like Gazbaz & Garcia and replace them with athletic types in the mould of Bell.

I ask myself what might Jack have that separates him from the likes of Sidwell, Jenas, Cattermole, Henderson, Shelvey, etc

I have failed to come up with an answer, perhaps I'm asking myself the wrong question.

Better technical ability than most of them and more physically imposing. And he has youth on his side.

There's a fine line between any of those and a K#%ne, Vieira, de Rossi etc. A Skoda and a Bentley both do the same job, but I know which I'd prefer. No idea which one Rodwell will turn out to be, but it's harsh to be critical for someone for being athletic.
