Manchester City On Facebook

I'm not a fan of Facebook but I am a member of the Facebook City page. Now, this isn't a comment regarding Facebook but rather the fact that City now have 5 million followers on there. I remember a few years back where a survey showed we had 800,000 UK supporters and around 2 million world-wide, which ain't bad, but now, according to this site, we have more than doubled our support.

Good or bad?

If we have doubled our support then great but people following City on Facebook across the world does not mean they are all necessarily City fans.

Impossible really to measure a team's worldwide fanbase but I think we probably have to use:

Number of season ticket holders - we currently have the maximum of 36,000 given our stadium capacity.

Average Attendance - ours will be around 47,000

Number of season ticket holders and membership holders plus junior memberships

Number of fans affiliated to supporters clubs

The Facebook and Twitter pages plus how often City's website is looked at is great as it shows people are interested in how we are doing, what the club is up to, the interactive stuff on the website, but how many of them are City fans and how many are general football lovers?

True Mark, you might even get non City fans following because one of their countrymen plays for City, I don't know, like Edin for example.

Unfortunately, it's good. Although we'd all like our clubs (all clubs not just City) to be made up of players who support the club and fans from the local area, it's not realistic, especially with the money involved.

City have put a huge effort in taking the premier league trophy around the world over the last 11 months. That's not for the good of people in other countries. And in reality, if we want ticket prices lower than at the Emirates, we need them to do it.
