Bury in Trouble...again

It seems Bury need a £1m to get out of a financial hole.

Strange club Bury they seem to have a hardcore of 2,000 no matter what, they don't own their ground (the council do) so don't get anything for the trouble of groundsharing with FC Rags and the town just doesn't seem interested.

Is it time that a club went semi-pro or amateur in the football league to survive. The PFA website says there are more than 600 players without clubs. Surely offering a blanket £25k per year x 18 would produce some interest of at least fielding a team.

There is no room for the casual fan now though as its £18 to get in. My Dad lives round the corner and although he's football mad he'd rather get a bus and a tram to watch Radcliffe Borough than pay to see Bury.

I'm from Bury.

Most of their fans are dick heads who think a scrap with Rochdale fans every now and then is the best thing in the world.

Neville Neville used to run things down there.

Both Neville brothers supported them when they were kids (no matter what bullshit they say now).

If you go down on a match day you'll see many sat there in a rag shirt.

Bury is a shithole.

Probably best that they fold.

Too far in bed with United for me to give a fucl about them. They seem to enjoy having many a dig and kick at us when we are floundering, so like Stockport County they can go fucl themselves.

It's not looking good for Bury. Their attendance has dropped dramatically over the last 5 years and like Mase said, most of the regulars are knobs anyway.

Watched em v Notts County. Not bad going forwards but defensively, dearie me, parks standard. Felt sorry for the manager, he's had a few hard knocks.

When did you last go?

Because i'm calling bullshit on the rag thing. You will find most Bury fans have a general dislike for rags the same way most clubs do, and yes whilst ive seen the odd rag shirt, it is rare and generally 8 year old kids being dragged along by their dads to get them into supporting something other than the premier league bandwagon.

As for the views about scrapping with Rochdale, yes, there are a fair few who dont mind a dust up but again, that is what a local rivalry is all about - just as it is with city and united where for example we call people posting on a message board a rag cunt if we disagree with their first post on here.

So we arent all that different to genuine supporters of any other club.

The problem at Bury is one of the reasons I support the concept of financial fair play amongst lower league clubs, a total and utter shambles amongst the senior stakeholders of clubs like Bury, "local boy done good" getting in over their heads and shitting it when they realise how much it actually costs to run a team in the football league.

Bury have been in this position 3 or 4 times over the last 15 years all due to administrative stupidity and nothing else. But the fact that 50% of league clubs have now experienced some form of winding up order over the last 20 years shows that its not just Bury, and that the idiots who run these clubs should be forced to run the clubs along sustainable lines, and where they are being personally funded by a benefactor due to low crowds, that benefactor should be able to undergo a stress test to see how their finances would cope in a downturn in their primary business - and clear guidelines should be implemented to ensure the owner cant just withdraw support.

Most of my friends on Facebook who are rags check themselves in at Gigg Lane every other week.

When was the last time you went?

The week before I left for Saudi Arabia - i go watching them away from home quite a lot.

In fact I'm part of the reason Bury are fucked - I wont pay the £18 to go and watch them at home because I think its an utter piss take for the standard of football on show, and why I have little sympathy for Bury's plight even though there was a time I went home and away. As I had to start paying adult prices, it was cheaper to go on the piss into town and to city with my mates, and I fell out of the habit, and into the social side of following city.

I think its good that your rage mates make an effort to go and watch a local team. I know plenty of people there with rag City, Liverpool leanings, but honestly there arent many rags. You'll probably find that 50% of the lads who go to Lower division games have another team, particularly in this day and age when its on tv 24/7. Over the years i've met forest fans at Mansfield, Newcastle fans at York, Arsenal fans at fulham (when they were shit).

I also dont get the perception of goaters103 that bury fans gloated when city fell hard, course they fucking did - they and every other local lower league club who played and beat us for a time. You should know the feeling of beating a local giant, we now do it regularly and dish the shit mercilessly. Like i said in the post above, football fans the world over are just the same.

Some interesting/infuriating comments on here. Sparatacus is right, a lot of supporters of lower league teams support a second team. I went to Uni with two lads who were Bury season ticket holders but also supported Liverpool and Chelsea. As for the rag part I know loads of blues in Bury but few reds and if you ask Bury no one hates FC United more than anyone.

As Mark E. Smith once said, "I'm from Bury". I have got some good friends who are Bury fans and for them I want the club to survive.

Imagine how it would feel if it was your club that disappeared.

they did alright with a bucket collection at ours last time they ran out of money.
no-one wants to see a club fold (with one exception)

if only Vinnie was from Bury

Good article about it here:

http://twohundredpercent.net/?p=22618

It seems my point of paying a max of £2k to 15 players is moot as most don't even earn that.

Growing up in Bury and spending 25 years of my life there I can tell you it was very rare you'd see someone sporting a City shirt walking through the town centre pre-takeover. It was like one of those, "oh look, he's a City fan!!!" And you'd give a little nod of the head to let them know you we're a City fan too.

Growing up I almost (ALMOST!!) became a rag literally because that's who every single kid supported in school. Luckily my dad took my to watch City before I could be sucked in any further.

My mum got her car tyres slashed when I was a kid at Castle Leisure Center for having a City badge in the back window. The place is a shit hole!

I won't be sorry to see the club go if it comes to that.

Sounds like you should be a rag you f*****g moron. When was the last time you went to Bury its far from a shit hole. I went to watch Bury as a kid before I got older and became Blue and it would be a crying shame if they went under as it would be if any lower league club went.

But isn't this the whole point, the whole fucking town cares more about other clubs than it does its own.

And growing up in most places around Manchester is generally a rag breeding ground. That's because they have considerably more fans than city, not because of some conspiracy to send all the rag kids to your school

That says more about the cunts who live there than the football club, so I don't get the view you hold for the football club

When did I say that or even make out that there was a conspiracy to send all rag kids to the school I went to? In fact the point I made was reinforced by you.

I didnt say that you had said there was a conspiracy, i just pointed out that there wasnt one and that every town surrounding manchester would have had considerably more rags than blues when we were kids.

Anyone seen the new Bury promotional stuff?

They've gone out of their way to put have a dig at City. For no reason whatsoever. But hey, they're not a bunch of rag lovers though...

Some people in this thread look very silly now!

Silly, why?

Because new owners have come in, new owners who weren't in place when everything above was written.

To be honest I just saw the promotional material doing the rounds on fb, and it is an idiotic move from them, alienating both potential customers who follow united AND City - because I see it as a dig at both clubs to be honest.

But the wording I have to admit is fucking bizarre, I just don't know why on earth the new owners would have done that.

And the bit about City doesn't even make any sense.

Can u post it up here Mase, as I'm on my phone at the moment so can't upload the image to photobucket
