Fernandinho

Done deal apparently...

From what i know of him he's a pretty good midfielder. Powerful and always impresses me with Shakhtar. Guess they see him as Barry's replacement.

Nah it was The Timperley Times, obviously.

Just several very well respected journos on twitter. I don't usually go with these things but for some reason i've got a feeling this one isn't utter bullshit. Di Marzio, the man who called the Guardiola thing amongst other very high profile moves, at Sky italia has called it and said a deal was done in January but its only just about to be announced now.

Yeah, just seen Tor Kristian Karlsen discussing it too and he knows his apples.

Did see back in Jan the player himself boasting he was signing for a Manchester club although at the time many had thought It was the rags, given their lack of quality in that area!

Sounds like a solid signing, can't say i've watched him much though. Anyone rate this guy??

Yeah that Tor Karlsen fella replied to me about it on twitter too. He's very on the ball.

I saw Fernandinho in the chumps league and he was excellent in every game i watched. Fantastic against Juve/Chelsea.

I've found it strange that no one has raided Shakhtar's team in the past, as the times I've seen them they've looked sparkling good.

I like this deal if it happens.

We can technically announce deals right after the last game of the season but the window officially opens 1st July ... I don't expect the club to confirm anything before then, though they should have done all their business by then ...

Ronaldo, Bale, Neymar, Dzeko, Rooney, Suarez, Cavani & Falcao could all move this window ... would probably break overall ££ record.

They got 'raided' a couple years ago with Elano, Matuzalem & Chygrynskiy leaving for considerable amounts & they sold Willian for £30m in January, but other than that, you're right. Of course, some of their players were constantly linked to top clubs in bigger leagues, even at a time they weren't this successful in the CL (Srna to Chelsea/Bayern springs to mind).
I think it's a combination of:
(1) a very good manager
(2) a loaded, but reasonable & patient owner, who also invests in academy & facilities
(3) top notch facilities as a result
(4) decent wages obviously
(5) domestic titles every year & good runs in Europe (even one UEFA Cup title in 2009)
(6) good scouting which results in a number of successful Brazilian players in the past years (Elano, Fernandinho, Ilsinho, Jadson, Matuzalem, Willian...)
(7) they never have to sell, because of (2) & as a result demand high fees for their star players, which few clubs are eager to pay, because those players are not "Prem proven' etc.

If you take all of that into account, I don't find it that strange actually.

Fernandinho always impressed me, he reminds me a bit of Ramires. Not your typical Brazilian showboating prima donna, but more of a dynamic box-to-box midfielder with good passing ability. Not sure if he's worth 23m tho, as he'll turn 28 in a couple of days & I don't see much room for further development. At least I wouldn't expect him to moan about the weather after 7 years in the Ukraine...

Seems to me that Bob looks like he has got his own way on signings. When you see him being interviewed recently he just has an appearance of quiet confidence that he will be getting who he wants.
Which is strange, what with my Itk sources telling me he is deffo on his way!

Never heard of him. I thought someone was taking the piss out if camel gob.....

If he is a 'dirty' player and we can channel it, that would be perfect. A bit of steel is exactly what we've been missing in midfield. Since DeJong left Bobby has never had the guts/confidence to sit just one in the hole and advance the other, usually Yaya. Although I do think Milner could play that protecting role for us.
