Pot three Champions League draw?

Pot Three for the Champions League draw next season seems inevitable for us. We're currently 14th highest in the teams qualified for the Champions League so far, and you'd expect Arsenal and Milan to qualify to the group stage which would demote us down to 16th, one further place down and we'd be in pot three.

Zenit and Schalke have a higher coefficient points, although they have to qualify, as do Valencia and Lyon but they might still miss out in their final league fixtures. Had we won even one of our group games last season I think it would of leapfrogged us up some way up:

PSG: 71.80
Juventus: 70.83
Zenit: 70.77
Man City: 70.53

tbf what you rather do test yourself against the sides we've come against in the group stages these last two years 6 of the best sides in europe or play Basel, Barry Town, Benfica, Oswald Road Girls and Galatasary before bowing out to the first team half decent team we face.

I still can't work up much enthusiasm for the champions league, and all their weird and wonderful co-efficients and pots. Suppose it's a hangover from when only scum, arse, chelsea and red scouse were allowed to play in it.

I've never really enjoyed the cl myself. Partly because of your reason and partly because teams play boring negative football and I need to get up at stupid o'clock to see it.

I think we need to get out of the groups before we will start to enjoy it as a competition. Its bloody tedious until that stage.

Is this the final coefficient figures?

I remember earlier in the season I looked at this and found that Due to the 5 year rolling points total, a couple of teams above us had massive points dropping off the calculation this season, zenit for their uefa cup win were one of them.

Being lucky enough to be able to get to the matches I would say that the CL and EL have been wonderful.

It is great being able to meet up with so many blues in European cities - every game has been an enjoyable experience in some fashion - even if the eventual match was disappointing (Amsterdam being a prime example).

If the draw could be rigged - I would love Bayern with the away leg falling just as it did a couple of years ago during Oktoberfest - that was a very special trip for lots of blues.

I echo those thoughts. The games often become secondary to the social aspect in Europe, although I would say that this is still down to the novelty aspect, perhaps after 10 years of going to largely the same cities and seeing your team play shit, you would start to think twice about going?

Its still a special buzz though getting up at silly o'clock in the morning to drive to some stupid fucking airport for the ryanair flight to the middle of nowhere and the train journey into the big city, then seeing thousands of blues scattered around as you emerge from the train station.

I'm particularly looking forward to certain trips, Malaga would be brilliant, Valencia is a good one basing yourself in Benidorm for a couple of days, milan (seems to be less aggro than further south in italy), Prague, Monaco, Marseille

Spot on.
I love the Euro trips but have to try to not allow our sorry arsed performances to ruin the occasion. Although it was a tough group, from a fan's perspective it was fabulous.
I went Amsterdam and Dortmund and had a fantastic time both places but the football was utter shite. (We were off back to the bar after 65 minutes in Dortmund)
Don't under estimate how important Europe is to us. It's a big part of why Bob went. We need to get that coefficient improved and get amongst the big hitters and bag some of the cash on offer.
I'm looking forward to the C L draw and hopefully a more determined and attacking attitude next time.

Agreed. And to progress as a club we need to be seen to be doing well in it. Another dismal showing will be hard to stomach.

It's not so much that I don't buzz about us being in it, I do, but it's the competition itself. I STILL miss the days of European Cup, Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Cup. Teams in European Cup had actually WON something. Ditto Cup Winners Cup. Fine fine competitions all three of them that I always enjoyed regardless of who was in. I still can't get over the fact that there are teams involved in a competition called CHAMPION'S League who haven't won anything in years, some cases decades.

I was gutted to miss Dortmund this time round, but Real and Ajax were brilliant trips, as was Bayern last year - but fuck southern Italy for a game of soldiers, won't be doing that one again. Will be interesting next season plotting my travels from Saudi Arabia - although I bet it's a damned site easier than the mad scramble for easyjet, and probably not much more expensive

In fact, I'm gonna start a new thread for some funny stories to lighten the mood.

After our draw last year, I am not sure the pot really matters. Get into the CL, take care of business and no one will care. While we may be in pot 3, we are dealing with numbers from this past season. We strengthen our squad correctly, it will not matter who we !draw. Bring it on!

Exactly. We can keep moaning about a "group of death" on an annual basis, but the only way we're going to get up the rankings is to considerably improve our overall performance in the Champions League. If Dortmund are capable then so are we.

I really want to experience a 'great European night' like the Hamburg game - but much bigger.

I remember watching Liverpool a lot even a few years back and the atmosphere and passion at such games seemed amazing.
