What do we think? Fair? It will definitely make the competition more desirable which can only make it a good thing imo.

Great incentive to boost the Europa Cup which is starting to usurp the CL in terms of competitiveness and attractiveness of games whilst way behind in the money stakes..

Uefa is set to award a place in the Champions League to the winners of the Europa League from the 2014-15 season, in order to make the competition more attractive, with an announcement expected on Friday.

Very good.

Other plans being considered include whether to award a fifth Champions League place to clubs in the big European leagues and to expand the number of Europa League places on offer.

I don't like this.

Also teams who win the Champions League or Europa League but finish outside the qualifying places in their domestic campaign will no longer usurp one of their league rivals to take up their place the following season.

I don't like this.

I think its fair. You go all the way in the lesser pot of Europe and do good enough to win it you deserve a shot at the main prize next year. Also gives Europa a bit more importance in terms of something to play for!

Thought that bit was down to each individual FA? You get to decide who represents your FA in the competitions right? I didn't like it when they changed the rule so Liverpool could get back in ... THAT was bullshit. The FA should decide the rules clearly, and follow them from now on.

does that mean that spurs would have qualified by finishing 5th this yr?

imo, only fair if they stop allowing 3rd place champs leagues losers into it

In the unlikely scenario, if for instance....

Chelsea finished 5th and won the CL
Spurs finished 6th and won the Europa

Whoever finishes 3rd will miss out on the Champions League.

Not necessarily. Proposals could add spice and competition.

I would like to see qualifiers in their leagues to continue do so at present with their quotas. Those who are CL or Europa League winners who do not qualify through normal criteria should do so by entering at the qualifiers for the play offs.

It could mean by your example that 6 teams from a country go through to CL but three would to go through the qualifiers with the extra games and no chance of dropping to the Europa unless reaching the Group stage. This would also dilute the funding for qualifying sides from a country and so the advantage. Seeding should not be allowed in qualifiers.

They already made this ruling when Liverpool won the CL and finished 5th, no more than your country's allotted spaces.(Even though that year they allowed 5)

ok, I've had a free day today & made the fucking most of it, so I came on here in a bit of a 2n8 & then started posting about this, then I've actually delted it all & started again as my brain has kicked into gear.

I'll come back on this when I've got a proper brain but think LIVERPOOL on this & all of a sudden, it starts to fucking reek of shit from where I am, but I can't contribute properly so pehaps I'm missing it.

It stinks to high heaven that FFP may fall short, and therefore they are having to consider options to allow the old guard to still qualify for the champions league even if they finish 5th.

I dont know why they dont just do away with the pretence of FFP, and come out and say that they dont like the idea of Inter, Liverpool and other such clubs not qualifying.

That will probably happen next, we get this for a few seasons, then they expand the Champions Lg.

If those kind of clubs are in tenth place in their respective leagues at Christmas, they can prioritise the Europa League for the rest of the season, & the top clubs will be preoccupied with the actual Camps lg, title battles & the top 4 race, any knocked out of the Champs Lg will treat the Europa as the lower of their priorities & the cartel wankers like Liverpool effectively get two cracks at a Champions Lg place rather than one.

Imagine if we were knocked out of the Champions Lg into the Europa, are hammer & tongs at it with Utd for the title, perhaps still in the FA Cup, then we have to play Liverpool over 2 legs in the Europa ?

They will beat us 9 times out of 10 because their season depends on it & ours doesn't.

I'm comfortable with that. Why should third place bring any kind of glory? Football is about winning things, and winning things should be rewarded. It saddens me that 4th has become more glamorous than any pot other than the PL and CL. What fucking nonsense that is.

Then why not just Champions? League Cup, FA Cup, Premier League, and Euro cup winners.

I get your point, and I'm mighty relieved we'll be in it next year. But at the very least this should see the likes of Spurs and Arsenal starting to take all competitions seriously. It's Arsenal's stated aim to finish fourth every year, which is cynical and tedious. If things begin to change they'll need a contingency.

Winning the UEFA Cup is a much more impressive feat than finishing fourth, twenty or so points off the top.
