The nineties

Postby Evenmydoghatesunited » Mon May 27, 2013 11:26 am

I'm 50 so go back to the 60's in footballing memory. Since then I reckon the 1990's has been the most barren period for us even allowing for that surreal match in the play off in 99. The 80s aren't far behind but we did play some good football and began it with Tommy Hutch's brace of goals at Wembley (albeit one at each end) and finished it with a 5-1 thrashing of satan's children and very nearly did for streaky. Looking back at my programmes tho we had Kinky, Uwe, Paul Lake, Niall Q etc But also some absolute dross. Where did it all go wrong?

A lack of stability in the boardroom, the dressing-room and the manager.

Complete mis-management from top to bottom and we spent money on the whole completely unwisely.

Swales for a start. Then Franny.

How we didn't win two titles in the early seventees is a disgrace. The treatment of Joe Mercer was disgusting, then despite a very good side under Book, the decision was made to allow Allison to return and let established internationals leave.

Throw in money wasted on Steve Daley after letting Barnes and Owen go for not enough and the course was set.

As for the 90s, I'd rather not bother. It was shite.

I'm still wondering when we're going to get over Allison's second coming....

What exactly was the deal with the Boler(?) investment? Did it materialise in the form of Craig Russell et al., or was it just a rumour?
