Staff season cards

Workers at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium have slammed the club after the Premier League runners-up made plans to withdraw the two free season tickets employees have traditionally enjoyed.
A letter sent to every member of staff informed they may have to buy the tickets for next season at half price instead of them being a complimentary benefit as a token of appreciation.
City, who are without a manager since the sacking of Roberto Mancini, are thought to be one of the only clubs to operate such a scheme but an anonymous employee told the Manchester Evening News the move was disgraceful.

Big money: Staff say the money the club will save would not pay Yaya Toure (centre) for two days
They said: 'It has created a lot of unrest and I know a lot of people who have worked there years who are now contemplating leaving because of it. 'We always got two free season tickets which we all classed as part of our salaries.
'But now we have been told that we can still have two tickets but we will have to pay 50 per cent of the standard price for them. It’s disgraceful and no way to treat staff. It’s a betrayal. They are spending millions on creating a new team in New York while effectively taking money out of the back pockets of their own staff in Manchester. And we are all wondering which level of staff this system starts at. I doubt Patrick Vieira is having to pay for tickets.

Pitching the question: An angry staff member queried whether Patrick Vieira was still entitled to free tickets
'It just smacks of bad management. The amount of money they will save from it would not be enough to pay Yaya Toure’s wages for two days. And although they announce sell-outs there are always empty seats.'
The club say the scheme is part of an ongoing consultation with staff, saying: 'In order to fund enhancements of existing staff benefits or introduce wider, more flexible benefits it may be necessary to amend the way in which staff access season cards.
'In addition to financial compensation, staff would also have the opportunity to purchase season tickets at a discounted rate.'

I know for a fact of a load of rags that work for city and sell these for a huge profit every season. So unlucky fookers.

It says they are receiving renumeration for the loss and other staff benefits - happens in the work place all the time.

Any real fan would still be made up with a 1/2 price season ticket - the only whingers would be the rags that sell them on that SOF mentions

Whinging cunts

Couldn't agree more. Most jobs don't have any perks so they should be grateful they get anything

Isn't this financial fair play at play? Aren't disabled carers losing their free admission also?

I guess the club will need to squeeze us all in the early years of the project if we're to play by these bent rules.

Even though I play for the ladies team I still have to pay for a ticket and I don't begrudge that one bit. It's never full price so I can't moan. You can tell its a rag moaning as they go on about empty seats.

Although I don't support the whinging little cretin, I'd be peeved if part of my contract was to get 2 free tickets only to have it taken away. Saying that, it does say they are looking at other benefits and still giving the option of 2 for 1. That's still very reasonable under the circumstances.

I'd suggest that the 'Grass' who's run to the papers is a snivelling little toe-Rag who has taken great pleasure in bringing a negative story to our door, just like those little fuckers from the Academy who gloat when we lose something, none of them have a clue about loyalty. I'd imagine each card is worth at least a grand to them when they sell it on, especially in the big games, and the extra income missed will hit their lifestyle, for sure.

It also looks like we need those seats back. This, along with the disabled member issue and the near 10% rise in prices, gives us a little insight into where we are headed.

It's just one of those things.

You don't miss what you haven't got, but when you have it and someone takes it of you, you realise how much you miss it.

If they are fans, then getting it half price is still a good deal. If they are rags, they can whistle.

Surely the question is if you are a rag, why do you work for City? Certainly I couldn't bring myself to work for the rags!

I actually think on reflection of your point beefy, its actually quite a positive story had they actually asked city to comment on their reasons.

Give you a couple of examples. My mates mrs is a trolley dolly for virgin, and they get flights anywhere in the world for £95, normally first class. However if a paying customer wants to buy the seat they get bumped to economy, and if a paying customer buys that seat, they get bumped off the flight completely.

Its all about supply and demand - if city have customers wanting to buy tickets and they can't satisfy that demand, then two free season tickets is particularly generous, especially as I expect there will be a fair few rags and non football fans who will sell them on. Such a generous allowance at a time when fans can't buy tickets or league games was never going to last, and its good the club are recognising this, as the munichs and other hangers on will soon stop hogging tickets when they have to shell out for them

It is a positive note that we are now in a position where we need the seats back to fulfil the demand, however there is the issue of rising prices and for those 'Die Hards' who're now getting to the point of thinking about their future with regard to attending matches.

It's not only us though mate, this is happening all over and once you get that demand then it's inevitable that prices will rise. I just worry about the rate we are going at and who will be sat next to me i a few years.

I was just about to post the same, I would be well pleased with a half price season ticket and would look upon it as a great perk of the job.

There are 100s of different jobs at city from coaches to ticket staff. I know a few rag coaches at the club and i know that they sell their season cards at a nice tidy profit. City are a good club to work for hence all sorts working for us. One of my mates for instances works with the academy lads doing fitness and stuff and is a staunch Bradford fan.

Meh, it was bound to happen. It's always easy to give away tickets to your employees that you most likely won't end up selling anyway. No they have a market so why keep doing it.

On the other hand I don't really care if someone else gets a break that I can't. I mean, just because I can't get something I'm not going to deny anyone else that.

If you take away the fact that it is City and tickets, something we woukd all love for nothing, it is wrong to be taking away a benefit that has been enjoyed as pert of your remuneration. If my staff travel perks were withdrawn I'd be up in arms as these are benefits that have been negotiated and enjoyed for some time. The club say there is financial compensation and I suppose if that makes up the difference it might change the complexion of the story, but if it's simply a removal of part of the package, then I'm with the workers.
Come on comrades!

(mind you, if the ticket office went on a go slow in protest, would anybody notice the difference?)

It sounds to me like they will get the difference back anyway, plus they can still purchase a ticket half price and sell it on if not interested. Probably for a lot more than they could several years ago, so the non-City fans doing this are still quids in. The heart bleeds.
