Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet.

As of last week, Gibraltar are UEFA's smallest full member. They will be entering qualifications for Euro 2016, and all competitions thenceforth. In all qualification competitions, they will be kept in a separate group to Spain, for political reasons.

Congratulations!

Weird. Why are they accepted? Aren't they a part of the UK+?

Silly idea in my opinion. For starters, they're not a country. But the main reason I'm against it is that it just adds an extra round of games in UEFA qualification for pointless games.

At a time, when we have too many international games in the football calendar, this is the wrong move.

I believe Scotland Wales Northern Ireland and for that matter england are all part of the uk. The real question then is why not jersey guernsey sark Alderney the Isle of Man or rockall? Ok I can see probs with the last one but to be fair (no pun) the faeroes get to play so why not

Gibraltar has a population of about 30k. Smaller than Macclesfield if you like.

I've been to Gibraltar, they can't have that many people there that can play football. I didn't even know it was possible to be a Gibraltar national and thought they all had regular UK passports.

I take it I can't move to Gibraltar and represent them internationally right? =(

Waste of time.

I think what Guernsey have done is better. They've turned their 'national' team into a club side and have entered the English league pyramid.

Think that is a better way to get local people to see a better standard of football. I just hope Jersey follow suit.

As a Guernsey based City fan the Guernsey Football Club is an awesome concept although very expensive as we have to pay our opponents travel costs and as we progress beyond the Rymans League we're undoutedly going to need non-Guernsey based players - was hoping for a loan deal for RSC but I think our strikers are probably better...

Guernsey considered joining FIFA many years ago as Faroes, Bermuda, Andorra all have smaller populations but we decided to remain within the English FA in the hope that we ever find another Matt Le Tissier who could play for England.

Jersey on the other hand play in red, enough said.

Red sky at night shepherd's delight, red sky in the morning bloody good job because Jersey's on fire.
