Inter to become new City?

Postby john@staustell » Thu Jun 06, 2013 10:35 am

So - wasn't it to protect Inter and AC that Twatini invented FFP?

Wonder if they'll be allowed to spend 'silly' money then?

Or just maybe they'll be scuppered by FFP? No chance.

Inter Milan could become the next club to be taken over by a multi-billionaire owner, as Indonesian tycoon Erick Thohir hopes a deal will be agreed soon.

Thohir, a renowned media magnate and sports franchiser, has confirmed he is negotiating a £280 million euros package with current proprietor and club president Massimo Moratti, while promising a further initial transfer kitty of £100 million euros.

Football Italia has claimed that the 42-year-old formally made the offer on Wednesday, with the club looking for a cash injection to boost the squad's stagnating performance after finishing ninth in the Italian Serie A for the 2012/13 season.

The entrepreneur, who is also heir to a £20 billion business empire and shareholder in MLS outfit DC United, was however tight-lipped on the details of the discussions: "I really can’t say anything, as the talks are proceeding," he told reporters.

Inter are expected to make significant changes to the team following their worst campaign in recent memory, starting with the £30 million signing of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, and have even been linked with Blackpool youngster Tom Ince.

The 18-time league winners have largely struggled since the departure of incoming Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in 2010, despite retaining the likes of Diego Milito and Antonio Cassano, and will miss out on European football altogether next year.

Nevertheless, clubs such as AS Monaco and Anzhi Makhachkala have proved the value of lucrative ownership, with an elite group of players - including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Radamel Falcao and Samuel Eto'o - each lured by ambitious projects.

Most notably, Manchester City have gone on to win their first Premier League title for half a century and consistently qualify for Champions League football since the takeover of Sheikh Mansour and a succession of busy transfer windows.

Meanwhile, Moratti met with new coach Walter Mazzarri to approve a transfer strategy and the tactician will be presented to the media on Thursday afternoon.
“I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly.”

100 million euros is not exactly a major amount in City terms or in ffp terms...
Manchester : New York : Melbourne : Yokohama
