4th Striker 'Cheap' option.

On the assumption that we miss out on Cavani and we keep our current striking options, who would you bring in for a relatively cheap (er) fee for our 4th striker option?

Obviously there's Guidetti but something tells me he'll be loaned out again this season.

I'd try and get someone like Demba Ba or even Darren Bent. I know they haven't got pace to burn but they are both natural finishers, likely to be unfancied by their managers and also unlikely to command a high fee.

Thoughts?

I've said it a few times that Benteke is really good.

However would command a hefty fee IMO.

I'd try and find a youngster on brink of success. Someone like Andreas Cornelius, 20 year old lad who scores for fun in Danish league.

Good shout.

The only reason I'd go for Ba or Bent is that as 4th striker you wouldn't expect masses of game time, instead needing to fit right in. As these two have premier league experience and proven I'd say they are 'safe bets'.

Yeah but with 4th striker I think you need to have one eye set for the future. And I don't think we would have to shop in bargain basement here. If it goes like that I think we would be looking for someone like Stephan El Sharaawy or Erik Lamela.

Agree but I don't see the point in loaning Guidetti out like the OP suggests. We have our own youngster hungry for success.

There's also the question of how we will play, will it be one up top? in which case 4 strikers would be too much.

Pellegrini is definitely two up front man. No question about it. If we set up any other way then it'd be clear someone above him was meddling with tactics (which I don't believe at all).

I agree about giving Guidetti a look but if it looks like he isn't fully fit and/or Pellegrini/Beguiristain doesn't like him then we need to look for other options.

He seemed to revert last season between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-4-2, not that I saw them play all that often.

I think upstairs will have a say on how we play, again like transfers it'll be about finding common ground and implementing it.

Faraon would be also insane price tag but Lamela is good one because Roma have problems now they will sell few players , Osvaldo , Pjanić maybe Lamela for good price Piris and Marquinho .Some of those players will be sold i think Osvaldo is close to Juventus and Pjanić is chase by BVB , Spurs , Bayern and AC so is Lamela and Marquinho. They need to seell because they miss Europe and they can t have insane price tags.

The fact that guidetti hasn't even been remotely near the first team doesn't fill me with confidence

I didn't see them more than handfull times last year but to me it seemed like he was using his beloved 4-2-2-2. That's definitely how he has set up his teams in the past.

It's not through lack of ability though, it's a fitness issue which will hopefully be sorted by the time season starts.

We tried the cheap option last year didn't we?

We are talking about winning the PL and the European Cup here, not pissing about in mid table with cheap options like we used to.

If the Glimmer Twins dont get a top striker to replace Mario they've failed just like Marwood. Sometimes that cant be helped but no point buying a mid-table player.

Only possible option apart from Guidetti - who may or not be good enough to try - is a top striker heading for pension day - Higuain or Villa. But that wont be cheap.

Ivica Olic.
he gives tevez like commitment all game.
ideal player for 4th striker.
not sure on his injury or contract status though.

Devante Cole. He'd be on less than Guidetti.

Cornelius is a good shout. Kadlec from Sparta Prague doesn't look too bad either.
Maybe a player like Adam Campbell from Newcastle who's only 17. I'd have recommended Mbaye Niang, or Lukaku, but it'll be tricky to get either one of them.
