The undignified reporting of Manchester city's transfer dealings worries me. If we are conducting multi-million pound negotiations should these be in the full glare of the press? This leads to "City fail to get ... and Real beat city to ...." If players agents could be told deals off if word leaks out , that should stop us looking like chumps when they go off trying to drive the price up elsewhere.
Also the rags did not suffer from the press in the same way as the journos were terrified of annoying the rags and being banned by bacon-face. Why dont we offer the same threat, we are unlikely to do worse given the fairly biased and hostile reporting if we were to do so. About time we learnt to trade more discreetly and manage our press relations.

It doesn't matter how secretive City want to be, the selling club will release the info to create a bidding war.

You only have to look at Napoli to see the case in point. I am sure the same could be said of Malaga's chairman with the financial trouble they are about to experience and even when we aren't involved at all(Lewandowski) our name still gets thrown into the mix because they believe it will expediate matters.

That's probably not the best idea; I doubt they'll get the asking price for Isco if they cut off his feet.

City can do things on the quiet it's just the selling team releasing the info. Same goes for graham hunter who has so much info inside the Spanish game that that's how he gets a name for himself, don't get me wrong I've got not to the lad but he would be the first to say Something than anyone else. Look at the silva deal or the Roswell deal, no one had a clue these were happening till city announced them officially so it does mean that things can be done in the quiet

The Rodwell deal came out of nothing, Silva however was in the media and just like the Isco deal for months! Barca had signed him at one point I remember!

Big deals are always played out in the public eye, it is a massive game between owners to get the best possible prices.

No offense to Rodders but the reason that was so quiet was because no one cared much about him. (for the record I think he is quality)

Worldy players come with worldy transfer sagas sadly, it is just one of the things you have to deal with.

Lets be honest City are on a hiding to nothing on the whole with the press and to some extent other jealous club owners/chairmen.

When you are on a hiding to nothing, yet are forced to engage as there are no alternatives, then the strategies are a bit limited tbh.

City could exclude the press or most of them, in effect excommunicate ourselves. Or they can take the moral high ground and be as civil as possible or even sweet with the press and journos. At the very least that keeps a sense of the people at City being of good nature and generating respect at the personal level. That always works and is credit in the bank essentially.

Ultimately it is going to take a lot of time for things to change. If Pellegrini is a hit with the media that will help some. But the biggest shift of opinion and attitude towards City will be because of playing great football and winning. Stylish football softens even the hardest hearts. Style and success will bring a mass of other fans to respect City and if that happens the press will then be seen to be flogging a dead horse and being twats, something the press is usually very careful to avoid.

On the contrary I think City do keep quiet re transfers etc - they used to but now no longer comment on transfer speculation. You only ever hear from Khaldoon at the end of the season. Soriano only did his first City interview the other day when they were in the USA. Not sure I have heard much from Begiristein other than to say Navas is a "gift". Frankly the press can only second guess who we after. They never saw Sergio or Silva signing and were not too ahead of the game re Fenandinho and Navas. OK the Isco one has been made public but that was done by the player not City. City are high profile now. Nobody cared in the days of signing Darius Vassell - they do now. The press know we are going to spend and so speculate but you very rarely, if ever, get any response to speculation from City. Even when RM was sacked all we got was a statement and that was 2 days after the story leaked.

As for Isco, i am more annoyed that this lad appears to have taken the piss out off us.He gave all the right soundbites to us,and we pursued him based on the fact he had insinuated to us,friends,family he wanted to join us.For him to be on paper saying he is anti-Madrid and then sign for them says to me he is a bit off a cunt if it is as appears to be true.You can not blame City for failings in both these transfer dealings when other factors come in to play,

I am gutted about Isco.He was perfectly matched for us and him to develop.There is still a very unrealistic glimmer of hope until he signs.
