Manchester City Football Club opens an exhibition at the Etihad Stadium on Friday 12 July to present the Club’s options for the potential expansion of the ground’s seating capacity.

The Club is seeking the views of fans, local residents and other stakeholders at the free exhibition at the Etihad Stadium where people will be asked to fill in a short questionnaire.

The same information and questionnaire can also be viewed online and responded to at www.mcfc.co.uk/stadiumfuture

The capacity of the Etihad Stadium is currently around 47,500. The Club’s two proposed options are to undertake the expansion of the South Stand alone (phase 1), to increase matchday capacity to around 54,000, or to expand both the South and North Stands at the same time (phases 1 and 2), to increase matchday capacity to about 60,000.

In the event of planning permission being granted, it is the Club’s current intention to first proceed with the development of the South Stand. However a phased or concurrent approach – pursuing the additional construction of an extension to the North Stand - remains a possibility.

This proposed expansion of the Etihad Stadium would allow the club to introduce a new Seasoncard for £299, and to improve the hospitality offer.

The questionnaire also asks fans of both Manchester City and other football clubs for their views on the possible relocation of visiting fans on matchday.

This first phase of public consultation runs throughout July and August and will be followed by a formal public consultation in the autumn ahead of the club proposing to submit a planning application to Manchester City Council in December.

Spokesperson: Pete Bradshaw, Head of Infrastructure & Corporate Responsibility; said:

“Manchester City Football Club strives to provide its supporters and visiting fans with one of the best possible matchday experiences in the Premier League and European football. Games are selling out frequently prior to going on open sale and there is rising demand from supporters for more season tickets, matchday tickets and premium seating. This is why we are considering these expansion proposals.

“We will be in touch with every fan who would be potentially affected by the changes in phase 1, and we encourage fans, residents and anyone who has a point of view, to visit the exhibition in person or online and tell us what they think.”

Thanks for that

The two links are different and neither work unless you go to the main site first to click on them. The left hand navigation when you get there is also wierdly written.

The survey when you get to it asks questions that I dont know the bloody answer to! It seems they are going to consult people about whether we think access to the stadium will be different or safety will improve by moving away fans - how the fuck are we supposed to know, isnt the point of a consultation that the club is supposed to put a case forwards first for us to respond to rather than just saying they are going to lump some new seats in.

It has the feeling of a consultation thats really not consulting anybody, just having the outward appearance of giving a shit.

The two links are different and neither work. Is that an official club communication?

Pretty shoddy if so.

Copied direct from the o/s - they don't work if you try directly from there either.

Think I will just pop down to stadium tomorrow and look first hand

I've just done the survey and agree with comments above... the questions didn't really tie in with the stadium expansion apart from the ones that talked about away fans. I expected to see questions asking whether the 2 proposed developments should be performed at the same time; would you be prepared to move your seat during stadium development work; what capacity should the club be building up to etc. Ah well. It's done now.

A few pics of the tarted up Etihad.

Skirt on.

Knickers off.

These images actually really help see how its could be done plus if it's fully glazed all the way round i'd expect a very rich window cleaner in the near future.

Love the look of this.

Imo the exterior of the Etihad really has needed something like this to tart it up, far too much bland concrete for my liking.

They've GOT to do both stands at the same time surely? It would be daft not to.

Depends how quick they can throw it up, i imagine it would depend on whether they could avoid having to relocate people if they were unable to throw it up in one summer.

I'd say building at that pace is highly unlikely, but I've just watched them build the new 60000 seated stadium in Jeddah in 5 months start to finish.

Perhaps it's just in England they fuck and fanny about on building sites?

I think modern stadiums are built with one eye toward building an expansion quickly. Also, it may be the case that we could put the seats in/roof on one summer, and do the other the following close-season.

Have you not seen how quickly they are doing the training ground?

Rapid.

I'm more concerned i might not have a roof over my had during the winter months.

They are fucking about here too.

There is a nice stretch of motorway that is usually a 60mph limit which they have slowed to fucking 35mph for about 2 miles, even though the fucking roadworks end after about half a mile.

When you are the only car on the road coming home from the late shift and still too paranoid about multinova cameras to speed, this is slightly annoying....I was slightly annoyed, in fact that's the language I used, maybe even a touch miffed.

Get it all done in one hit for me roof off seats in roof on job done.

Then stick away fans in the gods and let's have the whole south stand as some unofficial standing area and get some proper atmosphere going.

I'd assume this would take longer than the closed season is so we'd probably see some of the stand relocating. If they lose, say, 3000 seats for the period then I'm sure they wouldn't want to double that as they could be biting into season ticket holders seats. That's why they'd probably phase it.

If they can complete in the closed season then they'd be daft not to do both at once if the contractors ave the capacity. If they have, I'm sure we'll see both completed together just so they have that aesthetic/iconic view in place.

That's how I would see it most likely to play out, taking longer than a summer, a bit of relocation and perhaps half a season or so with no roof.

St James park new stands though I think were sort of bolted into the back of the existing one, they threw the concrete up during the season, the roof up over the summer and built the inside stands during the season with little or no disruption from what I recall - it just sort of seemed that the ground was all new one day they did it so quick.

That's sorta my beef with the 'consultation' though, they haven't actually consulted or for that matter even given any detail of the actual disruption likely whilst its being built which is what I'm most bothered about as a st holder

Glad all this is happening in the years I am away, should come back to a nice new stadium, new seat at the front if the 3rd tier with any luck after im kicked out of the kids stand in 2yrs time, and a better atmosphere than I left behind.

Have popped into the display at Eastlands today, i get the impression from what i've read there that the main consultation is yet to come, what we're seeing at the moment is a taster, to get an idea of whats to come and how to handle the away crowed. I expect the news of the disruptions will come as they submit the planning and need to get the approval.

I hope we don't stick the away support in the gods. I think the atmosphere away supporters generate is one of the most important parts of any exciting game.

Mixed feelings - most other clubs do it
