The Count has said Maicon won't be in the Squad this season.
Another on the long list of City wtf? signings.

His performances looked like he was mentally gone the minute he showed up. Seems like a nice guy but should have retired or stepped to a less competitive league a few years ago.

Reports in Italy that he is on his way to Roma.

We need a 'Hall of Fame' for our most bizarre/abject failure signings. There'd be legions of them.

I wonder if we'll get any of the 3 mil cost back?

Seaman
Maicon
Savic
Wassall

And that's just off the top of my head.

I don't think this is the first time you've mentioned him, Ted. How much did we pay?

I can't remember but he played a handful of games then we sold him to WBA. Bizarre, dodgy stuff. The hand of Swales all over that one.

What a peach he scored for us though!

Never really expected him to bust a gut and he didnt surprise me, however what struck me more was how such an accomplished and well regarded player couldn't use his left leg for anything other than standing on - i don't think he even had a football boot on his left peg just a slipper with studs.

Never understood why he was signed in the first place. £90k a week for a third string Right-Back who cant defend. Odd.
Helped change the game against Spurs at home last November, and that's about it. He wasn't Laurent Charvet as a player, but financially it was money just pissed up the wall.

He would have come in handy had mancini managed to get traction with his 352, so I suppose you cant blame mancini for signing him with that plan in mind, but whilst its no transfer fee, it is £5m a year in wages and no doubt a hefty payoff to get rid of him.
Wish him the best of luck though, never caused a minutes trouble moaning to the press though he hardly played when fit.

Not that long ago, we'd have thought that was an excellent side (obviously before any of them played for us)

The most bizarre thing imo is not that we signed him, it's that we threw him in at the deep end when he wasn't ready, then paid him to be injured, then just as he started to get fit enough to possibly make a contribution, we fucked him off.
I can see the reasoning behind each element, but it makes for a bizarre transfer nontheless.

I think it's obvious that Mancini saw it as another Vieira signing ... experience + backroom support for Mancini, and potentially 1 or 2 great performances left in him. IF i had worked, people would have hailed Mancini as a genius for bringing him in at $3m. I think Mancini liked those kinds of risks, succeed big or fail big ... no pussy footing about. I quite liked that about him, actually.
In the end, and as many people probably knew before he even arrived, Maicon is not the professional that Vieira is, and it didn't help that he got injured when he did and that the 352 never took hold.
No ill will towards the player ... but it's good that he's moving on.

That's a good summary.
His only performance of note was the Spurs home game, where he did change the game when he came on. Unfortunately, he just doesn't have enough in the tank to play regular Premier League football, or even as a frequent sub.
Good luck to him with whatever he does next. At least it's another player on a big salary off the wage bill. It would be a bonus if we could get any sort of fee for him too!

Supposedly £4M fee, if we turn a profit on him I think I'd have a stroke.
