Dave Wagstaffe, who came through the City youth system and made 161 appearances for City before becoming a Wolves legend, has died aged 70.
RIP.

Dave Wagstaffe was a fine player and I was very sad when he left City.

I remember going to watch Wolves, with some friends who were Huddersfield Town supporters, down at Molyneux in either 1971 or 1972.

Huddersfield had been promoted to the First Division and were a workmanlike side with a no-nonsense, rugged, hard-tackling defence which a lot of accomplished teams found hard to break down at first. However, Wagstaffe ran riot that day (the opposing right back was a player called Clarke - from vague memory his first name was Geoff) and set up endless chances for Hugh Curran and Bobby Gould who were playing in the middle.

Early in the second half, Huddersfield swapped over full backs and Waggy was marked by the far more capable Geoff Hutt, but to no avail.

Wolves ran out winners by four goals, or so and Waggy was unstoppable.

On his day he was a terrific player and deserved to make a far bigger name for himself in the game, than he ever did.
