EDS v Fulham

Postby Douglas Higginbottom » Sun Aug 11, 2013 7:34 pm

Defeat in the first "league"game of the season today and not a great performance either. We did have the chances and were one up at half time but Fulham showed good organisation and did enough to score 2 goals to win.Never at any time did Fulham dominate the game but they did restrict City to few chances especially in the first half. Both created by Fofana, one scored by Hiwula and the other he smacked against a post.

Hiwula could have scored a couple more with better finishing but somehow it never felt like we would score. They scored two goals almost from nothing as we allowed crosses which went long to be turned back in again and we were sleeping.Nothing special from anyone really but flashes of quality from Fofana.Physically a bit like Helan but I think a better prospect.Lopes flitted in and out and maybe needs a rest after his late international stuff.Bytyqi was missing,Rusnak some skills on show but they never amounted to anything.

I hope there will be improvements.

I wish they'd get their act together and start showing the EDS matches (or the home ones at least) on the official site.

"For when the One Great Scorer comes To mark against your name, He writes - not that you won or lost - But how you played the Game."

Or so the 'Barcelona Way' theory goes. Then again we could just be crap (again)

From reading a lot of these reports it seems clear that we have some decent players but as a team they are disfunctional. However, this was only Paddy's first game in charge and the new set-up might bring the EDS up to a standard that will give them a chance to shine.

We'll wait and see. Paddy may not be the excellent coach that we all think he could be. Time will tell.

Of course we have decent players, they all are, but the real question is whether we have any capable of making the step up.Even a step down from that thought ,do we have any that actually shine in EDS type games and make the difference to win games.

Yesterday I saw a lack of pace in moving the ball and not good enough or clever enough movement to give the man on the ball good options. That meant that it was all a little too predictable. In the middle Huws basically site and moves the ball along without really threatening to create anything.Fofana made a few good Yaya like runs at the defence and was quite successful with them.On one he hit the post and the other made the goal.He also swung some good passes from left to right wing but overall I was not convinced.

The 2 wide players were Bytyqi on the left.He is really just a worker and very right footed.A Milner type player but obviously not as good.Rusnak on the right has tricks and does try things but nothing much worked against a well organised team.

As for Vieira of course we have to give him time as it's his first real coaching job

I think that's what I'm saying Doug, we have decent enough players but can we turn them into top players, or at least players we can utilise?

There's been big changes over the last few years and a big upheavel to the youth set-up. I'm assuming that we want it sorting as we hit the new training facility and why Paddy has been put in there to bring it on. I'm just hope we're backing that up with top quality youth coaches and strategy to boot. In these games it's the quality of the play, not just the result.

Brazilian lad Gaby Fernando has been poached by someone in London. Not signing a contract with City.

Looked as if he may have had a chance to me but he probably thinks/has been told he will move up the ladder quicker elsewhere.

Pity. But that's what will happen if we get players who are obvious potential rather than the run of the mill stuff we used to have. We still need to shift the soso players out quicker, & find them new clubs, in order to make way for the better talent imo.

I don't know why we didn't keep on a 2nd reserve team like we were doing a few years back & use it as a shop window or a 2nd chance opportunity, for those who hadn't kicked on.
