West Brom snap up Scott Sinclair

August 22, 2013

West Bromwich Albion have signed Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair on a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

Sinclair, 24, who has struggled for playing time since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Swansea last summer, completed his move after passing a medical on Thursday.

The Baggies, who reportedly beat off competition from Southampton for him, confirmed the signing on their official website.

Head coach Steve Clarke, who worked with the former England Under-21 international at Chelsea, said he was pleased to have wrapped up the deal.

“Scott understands he needs to play football, and it will be good to work with him again,” he said. “We’re delighted he feels this is the right club for him at this stage of his career.

“He is the type of player we were missing from the squad. He is a pure winger who is quick, direct and scores goals -- he has proven that over his career. He can play off the right or left and improves our attacking options.

“I know him well, and he is a good person who I know is 100% committed to our cause. He is frustrated he did not get the chances to play at Man City last season, and hopefully he will take those frustrations out on Premier League defenders this season.”

Albion sporting and technical director Richard Garlick added: “Scott is the winger we earmarked right at the start of the transfer window. He has had a frustrating time at Manchester City, but you cannot doubt his quality in terms of what he has done in the past.

“He has a got a full pre-season under his belt with City and he is young, he is hungry and wants to play. He likes the club, the set-up, the players and the head coach. Hopefully he will bring a wow factor to the team -- and will be a player who will excite the fans.”

Sinclair became a forgotten man at City under former boss Roberto Mancini, and was then told he had no future under new manager Manuel Pellegrini.

He started off at Bristol Rovers before moving to Chelsea -- where he was shipped out on loan to Plymouth, Queens Park Rangers, Charlton, Crystal Palace, Birmingham and Wigan. He moved to Swansea in a permanent deal in 2010 before switching to the Etihad Stadium in 2012.

Good move. Gets him out in front of the cameras where we can advertise him. Also if he does put in some decent performances Pelligrini can always choose to retain his services, although this seems unlikely unless there's a massive improvement, Nasri was even looking quicker on Monday!

What does 'with a view to a permanent move' actually mean in technical terms? What if he goes and has an absolute stormer of a season for them and we decide we want to give him another chance here. Does that mean Brom still have first dibs on him?

I think it means there's a pre agreed "buy it now" fee for the loaning club

So I click on the top right corner of Scott Sinclair to buy him now?

No harm he should get regular football.Hopefully he can play himself into a permanent move.Honestly can't see him having a future at City.

Good move for him. A truly perplexing transfer...almost Vuoso-esque.

Not good enough for City but decent enough for other teams in the PL. I have to say though, he is thick as pigshit...easy to see how him and Flanagan were together. Did you see the "Teammates" feature on the OS with him and Rodwell. Rodwell is not daft clearly but the contrast made him look like Stephen Fry...jesus Sinclair was numb as nuts!

Always looked as though he was in awe of his teammates in my opinion.
He had pace to burn but the problem was he had no anticipation of a pass, so was always yards away from where he should be.

I recon he was with Rosie for reasons other than her razor sharp wit or intellectually stimulating conversation.

I was amazed he out-ran that full back in a straight race. Fuck me he must have been slow!

If you're the loaning club, yes.
