Goal.com claiming that we will sign him:
http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/transfer-zone/2013/08/27/4218220/manchester-city-agree-47m-deal-with-atletico-madrid-for?ICID=HP_BN_7Manchester City have agreed a deal in principle with Atletico Madrid for centre-back Martin Demichelis, Goal understands.
MANCHESTER CITY LATEST
21/10 Manchester City are 21/10 with PaddyPower to win the Premier League title
City have negotiated a fee of around €4.1 million up front, plus a further €580k in add-ons, with the Liga club.
Personal terms are yet to be agreed with the Argentine defender, though further talks are scheduled for Wednesday as the Premier League side look to recruit cover for the injured Vincent Kompany.
The Belgian limped out of the 4-0 win over Newcastle United in City's first league game of the season, and with Matija Nastasic also sidelined through injury they were forced to field Javi Garcia alongside Joleon Lescott Cardiff City on Sunday, a game they lost 3-2.
Sources close to the deal revealed that City officials were reluctant to pay over €2m for the defender as recently as last week, but the club are now hoping to push through a move for double that price.
Demichelis only joined Atleti on a free transfer from Malaga in July, but has been singled out by Manuel Pellegrini, his former manager at La Rosaleda, to bolster his defensive ranks at the Etihad Stadium.
The pair also worked together at River Plate in 2002-03, before Pellegrini moved to Europe to take charge of Villarreal.
Obviously it is goal.com, but we have been linked with him before this summer, so there might be something here.
Not sure about this guy. Pellegrini trusts him obviously, but he is really slow from what I've heard.

He is an organiser, very clever defender, However downside is this League might be to late for his legs. We lack something at the back, he might be the answer, but it is a gamble from the manager who appears to trust him.
Players like Hangeland. Who could offer be a better solution to the defence options.

This is absolutely not the player I would be going for.
But if the Count rates him, then I'll have to assume there is something in his play which can improve us. I can't see what that is.
Having said that, the Count is not alone in rating Demichelis. He is either in, or on the shortlist for some people's La Liga 'team of the season' for last term, so it would appear that some rate him quite highly. 2nd highest player in the league for winning tackles.
The name that always comes up in La Liga teams of the season though is Inigo Martinez, from Sociedad. If he is as good as they say, now would have been the time to sign him; whilst Real & Barca can't.

Short-term signing at best with his age and the miles on his clock, but if he is a leader on the field and can help in Europe, then he may add something.
City have far too many Indians and a lack of chiefs, the manager knows him well and the pricetag is a relatively cheap one. Lets wait and see.

I see BBC had him in their La Liga team of the year last season.
In other news BoyataBoyata has been called up to the Belgian squad.

Judging by the reaction to Rekik being included in the Dutch squad, I assume this makes Boyata the answer to all our problems for next season.

We don't need to sign a world class CB.
We've got one already and another player who will be one in a season or 2 and the strongest back up in the prem in Lescott.
We totally do need an older experienced head who can do a job 5 times a season and otherwise sit happy on the bench.
A Pizzaro type but as CB would be perfect.

I always liked him, but sadly he's finished. Makes Garcia look like Speedy Gonzales.

He isn”t the best name on the list, however, i remember what an impact Paddy had here, so i won”t judge just yet. I think we need a couple of old lads in the dressing room that won a thing or two to motivate the others.

Okay he is 32 but he is a very player and of course hes an argie, i can see him doing a good job for us.
Last season he was named in la liga team of the year and was very solid in his Bayern Munich days.
It's just a pity the club had not got the sense to sign him up on a free at the begining of the window.

Martinez is still very young he could be a really good shout but i don't think he has featured in the team of the season before this year, himself and Demichelis were the back pairing.
