Roy Hodgson allegedly told the below joke and is now "embroiled in a race storm"

Fucking pathetic - some people have compared him to terry and Suarez!!!

“NASA decided they’d finally send a man up in a capsule after sending only monkeys in the earlier missions,” the joke goes.

“They fire the man and the monkey into space.

“The intercom crackles, 'Monkey, fire the retros.'

“A little later, 'Monkey, check the solid fuel supply.'

“Later still, “Monkey, check the life support systems for the man.'

“The astronaut takes umbrage and radioes NASA, 'When do I get to do something?'

“NASA replies, 'In 15 minutes - feed the monkey.'”

Former Inter Milan chief Hodgson has said he did not intend to cause offence.

the joke itself is not the issue. the issue is that he allegedly used the punchline "feed the monkey" to encourage his players to get the ball to townsend.

When did you last see a monkey with black or brown skin? Hodgson was actually saying Townsend is superior to the other players, but it is far more interesting to turn it into racism.

They're either racist or just plain stupid, I'd like to give him/them the benefit of the doubt and say it's the latter.

Telling a joke involving a monkey to footballers does not say that Hodgson is a racist but it does say he was stupid or made a stupid mistake. After all the recent controversy of the monkey chants directed at black players, you would think someone like Hodgson(presumably intelligent) would stay well clear of such jokes.
