City wait on Jovetic injury diagnosis

Manchester City are waiting to discover how long they will be without Stevan Jovetic for after he suffered a calf injury in their Capital One Cup victory at Newcastle.

The Montenegro international striker was taken off in the tenth minute at St James’ Park and replaced by Alvaro Negredo, who went on to score City’s opening goal in the 2-0 win.

City’s medical staff will assess Jovetic, who has already spent two spells on the sidelines with injuries during his brief time at the Etihad Stadium.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini said: "[He] has pulled his calf. He was on for five minutes and it was his third injury, so we will see [on Thursday] with the doctor to see what kind of injury [it is]."

Jovetic has endured a frustrating beginning to his City career since his summer move from Fiorentina.

The 23-year-old has only started three matches, two of them in the Capital One Cup, and his only goals came in the 5-0 thrashing of Wigan.

He has struggled to displace Sergio Aguero, who has scored nine goals in his last seven games, from Pellegrini’s team in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Jovetic has been a big miss imo.

He is a real quality player who could be just as effective in his own way as Silva is. He could both create & score a lot of goals in this team.

Not even had time to even think about adapting to the Prem so far. May be next year before we see a fully match fit Jovetic, taking a full part. Not a bad secret weapon for the 2nd half of the season though.

That's what I'm hoping for at this stage. He's been unlucky so far, but showed glimpses of brilliance.

I'm confident that he'll shine once he gets a run - I was a huge tevez fan before he came to the prem and while he was here (yes, it did rip me apart when he was loaned to the rags), but a lot on here who hadn't watched him closely before then were questioning how important he would be to us.

I actually feel the same way with Jovetic. He has what it takes, no doubt about that. Fingers crossed he gets a break from these stupid little injuries!

He came to us with a history of injuries and it's not gone well to date. I suspect he'll be joining the line of City greats like Bojinov, Michael Johnson and Rodwell who get better the less they play and we never actually find out how good they are.

Anyone can get an injury, but the constant injuries don't bode well.

Kompany has proved to be injury prone. Jovetic has had a few setbacks in his short City career to date. However you can see the guy is class.

Fucking hell.

Whether Jovetic is a success in the Prem is yet to be seen, but I can assure you he is a fucking thousand times better than Jo or Samaras!

no shit. can you imagine that Fiorentina team if they'd kept him? Serie A is back and the Prem is suffering.

Ross?

cheers

I wouldn't go that far but Serie A is definitely on the way back. I caught quite a few Fiorentina games last season on ESPN and they were great to watch. Robbed of a CL place too by a Mario dive ( and possibly a bribed ref ). Jovetic is quality and they have a midfielder called David Pizarro, tidy little player.

Prem is going quite well imo, now that old cunt has gone & teams are giving the rags a game.

Not upto scratch yet, but all of the top teams fancy their chances & are trying to improve, even Arsenal, rather than most just coasting along expecting to come 2nd like when that turd was in a job. I recon it will improve a lot over the next few years.

Take the loan bribes the ex player BS, his lickers in his debt, the scum are playing the same game as us all now. Moyes is also out of his depth , long may it continue.

If it was only here, it could have been bad luck. However, he'd suffered a number of injuries before joining.

We can't be cynical when he was taken out at knee height by that twat Gouffan on Wednesday. He went off about a minute later.
