PSG announce 200 mil pa sponsorship.

Postby Ted Hughes » Fri Nov 01, 2013 12:22 pm

Here we go, if this is true then FFP either starts or ends here:

http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/252873.html

Paris Saint-Germain have officially announced their sponsorship deal with the Qatar Tourism Authority which will net the Ligue 1 champions up to €200 million a year.

Mooted last season, the agreement was publicly confirmed on Tuesday making PSG the first club to be sponsored by a state.

Income from the deal, which will reportedly be retroactively paid back to 2012, is said to increase incrementally year-on-year through to a reported maximum €200m come 2016.

"Our association with the Qatar Tourism Authority allows us to give ourselves the means necessary for the development of the club in the direction that we envisage," PSG's CEO Jean-Claude Blanc said.

"It clearly benefits the image, as well as the results, of the club. QTA's support enables us to offer our supporters a level of performance in keeping with their expectations and our ambitions."

The sum will significantly help offset PSG's annual budget, which this year totals €430m euros, though the club will also have to provide details of the agreement to UEFA before European football's governing body takes it into account with regard to the club's obligations to meet Financial Fair Play regulations.

As part of the agreement, Laurent Blanc's squad will be able to use Qatar's high-performance ASPIRE centre for this year's winter training camp, the third successive year the French club will have travelled to the Gulf state during their winter break, to prepare for a high-profile friendly with Real Madrid in Doha on January 2, which will launch the second half of their season.

I go to Rennes, good squad when in France and the filter down the league of ex PSG players is huge, I mean very good players the ex captain Armand, have been paid off to leave, is now playing at Rennes. They are a dark Horse for the Chumps, tough game for anyone as they showed last season, a litlle more calmer they would have mullered Barca.

Very fishy to say the least. Firstly there's the FFP issue but more important to me is how this deal came about. How many palms were greased?

Isnt Platini's son on the payroll of PSG's owners now?

In which case this will pass, so the Sheikh will have the ammunition to up our next sponsorship to the 1 Gazillion Pound per annum level and then moonwalk across any Uefa FFP meeting citing PSG's deal.

Im happy for this to pass, as so long as it does it permits us to do likewise. PSG will be a power in Europe but globally the French Ligue carries little appeal meaning Prem Lge teams other incomes and exposure will always make them more appealing as a top destination than PSG. Sponsorship deals like this mean City can match any wage offer PSG muster, given our own sponsorship deals which will hugely enhance our income and turnover.

Same here.

It's all over for FFP if they can't stop this.

Be interesting to see if the football authorities want to go to war against the people who bribed them to stage the World Cup.

FFP should relate to money in the bank not income. If our owner wants to invest and spend who should stop him as long as it is not done as a loan. If another club wants to get into debt that is not affordable they should be stopped

Platini's son is a lawyer for QSI, which i think has a big investment in PSG.

FFP is/was an idealistic idea formulated by clubs scared if being left behind. If €200m is fair game then all bets are off. Its a redundant exercise.

You are bob on re the Qatari influence re the world cup. We've not even begun to have the fallout from that. None of the suits are going to dig too deep into affairs relating to Qatar for fear of reprisals.

Be interesting to hear Wengers thoughts on PSG

That I'm aware of. Are you saying that Platini's son was given a job as a way of greasing palms as UEFA? That I can see being the case. There is about to be a huge political scandal in California with something similar. But as far as QSI and QTA there would be no reason for palms to be greased between the two government entities of Qatar.

So it's being backdated. I notice Etihad was created in 2003 surely we have missed out on ten years of back sponsorship? It's time to double the deal.

I wouldn't worry, I believe our financials are due out next week and they are rumoured to be pretty bad news for the competition

Word such as 'the penny will finally drop about the sustainability of our financial strategy' have allegedly been used by the club in briefing sessions

Oh I'm not worried, it was a part of our strategy all along to keep quiet and comply whilst letting another club take on European FFP.

Just stick a City logo on the side of an oil well and be done with it.

This will be completely ignored, but when we get a fiver off Gregg's, Platini will be moaning about it. Tough, FFP is officially dead.

Was always on the cards.

PSG are of course allowed this sponsorship in any case as they are not English. Also Twatini's son works there of course.
