Which if our 'foreign' players

Postby Tony P » Sun Nov 03, 2013 1:13 pm

Speaks the best English? As an English teacher I can't help but to listen to how they speak rather than what they say when they are interviewed. Just watched Yaya after yesterday and was impressed with his very Manc 'full credit to our lads'. Zaba too, has got Manc twang.
I also heard Nastasic for the first time - sub Kolarov intermediate level.
I've never heard Silva speak English. After three years who should, surely? Then again Tevez never did.
I've always been impressed with the lads who come over young and then speak almost perfectly (intonation and stress timing). Rusnok is doing a good job. Boyata less so.

Actually, I think the answer to my question is going to be Vinnie.

And the irony award goes to me for misspelling a word in the thread title.

Cogently expressed for an English teacher.

Now go and read it out to yourself ten times at the back of the class :-)

Not for titles on my phone :(

Anyway, I tell all my students mistakes are opportunities for learning. I'm glad I don't teach Joe Hart, though.

Pocchetino clearly has no plans to ever learn English. He's still dragging that interpreter around with him everywhere.

Vinny from our players. Dzeko speaks quite good English too. Romelu Lukaku speaks brilliant English - I spotted that last week. Better than Rio Ferdinand, in fact.

The dutch speak and pronounce English clearer than any Cockney, Geordie , Scouse or Brummie. If we have a saving grace with our Manc dialect it is that it is a very soft pronunciation. The slower you speak the less noticeable your accent.

There's something about the Benelux area, I've worked with them a lot in previous years (decades) - they take to languages so easily. Not just English.

Apparently Pochettino speaks very good English but just can't be arsed in interviews which is quite fun.

If I was him I'd make the players learn Spanish.

Guidetti and Yaya are remarkably good at it.

Yaya is fairly good as well.

what i am surprised by is how much the Bosnians understand...they just cant speak it very well.

most of the spaniards and Sergio seem to be the worst at understanding and speaking.
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

Tevez was the same, spoke good English but dodged interviews by insisting he wasnt good enough for interviewing, he did some of his last interviews with us in English and it wasnt bad
