Milners place in the team

Postby MilnersJaw » Sun Nov 03, 2013 8:12 pm

So what exactly is milners place in the team? he plays well in the mid but will play wide and put a shift in either way. He's a great player but doesn't get much game time.

in the starting eleven it seems if its a cup game but not much else.

it seems pellers strongest 11 is:

hart
pab, kompany, nasti, clichy
nasi yaya fannydidlo silva
agureo and meat head

nasi seems to be alot better this season and is winning over people (took him 2 seasons) but where does milner fit in? He is obviously not going to start ahead of silva yaya and fanny, yet sometimes yaya and fanny partnership got found out in games where we dont have possession like munich. Nasi is much improved this season yet dont fancy him playing as a winger, and now navas is fighting for a spot out wide as well so will further restrict milner.

of course we might go with 5 in midfield on some occasions like against chelsea but he got shafted by garcia.

thoughts?
Still here.

Imo Milner suffers from being adaptable & easy to work with, both for City & England.

If you ask Milner to just spend the game for example stopping Baines from getting a kick, he will do it.

Could be a top quality centre mid & imo should get games as competition for &/or partner for Fernandinho in that area.

He is a minimal fuss footballer who quietly and effectively does his job. He does suffer from that and also people like 'exciting' players, who get them off their seats so to speak.
I feel like he does need to make centre midfield his own position, he looked great there for Villa.

Sometimes players are squad players. They are too good to sell yet not quite good enough to command a regular starting berth. They invariably can cover multiple positions and do it well and without fuss. They can slot in at a moments notice. They rarely get injured and they keep fresh & dont get burnout due to overplaying. They are invaluable to any team, especially title chasing teams. It is a huge bonus if they don't cry to the manager about lack of pkaying time. Milner is this player. We need to do everything we can to keep him happy

Hes a workhorse but he cannot cross for toffee , not an exciting player at all , head down and runs more often than not into a dead end , hes a great player to bring on in the last quarter.

Out wide thesis pretty accurate. Sitting central deeper tho he's more exciting than most in that role and compliments silva very well.

For my money, I'm never outraged when he's benched, buy have to admit he doesn't get the games he deserves.

If ever we played a genuine 4-2-3-1 formation, for me, Milner would be ideal as one of the 'two' sitting midfielders, possibly playing alongside Fernandinho.

However, if the 'three' were, say, Nasri, Silva and Yaya, it would leave Negredo fighting it out with Sergio for the last attacking place (sorry Dzekophiles).

i seem to recall milner getting a decent run in the side early last season (?) or maybe the season before, and his form was...ok. great squad player but i would not want any of our current starting 11 dropped for milner.

I don't really agree with the Milner can't cross comment. He can't get past the defender by pace it's true, but I've sen him put a number of decent crosses in from seemingly impossible angles by curling his foot round it somehow.

he's a brilliant player to have in the squad and he'll see plenty of action I'm sure.

and like many others have said I'd also like to see him in a central role, imo that's where he has been at his best.
