The records from City V Norwich

To me every game creates history for the Club whether good or bad, but this weekend's match has created history which, if the stats of the past are to be believed, may mean that game remains a historical footnote for years to come (maybe for all time).

The history/records it created....

2nd November 2013 – MCFC 7-0 Norwich City. It's been widely reported that the 7-0 scoreline is City's best in the Premier League but it's also City's best in the top flight since 7/12/68 V Burnley (also 7-0). City have scored plenty of 7s over the years in the top flight but the last time City scored more in the top flight was on 24/10/25 8-3 V Burnley (next game City lost by the same scoreline - I covered this in my programme piece in Saturday's match prog).

The 7-0 scoreline is also a record winning margin for the Etihad Stadium and City's greatest winning margin in the top flight.

There were 7 different scorers (equalling the PL record - Chelsea had 7 scorers V Villa on 23/12/12; an 8th player missed penalty!).

Some have suggested that it was the 1st time that City started without an Englishman in their side, but that's not true. The earliest I can remember was 9/11/02 City faced MUFC without a British player in starting 11 – as with City V Norwich the sub was English (SWP; Kevin Horlock also came on but of course he's a Northern Ireland international born in England).

Thanks Gary, I was wondering was seven different scorers a record.

I noticed you said Premier League record, I take it's not a top flight record then?

Liverpool had 8 different scorers when they thrashed Crystal Palace (Perry Suckling in nets!) 9-0 in Sept 1989 in Div 1. LFC also had 9 different scorers when they won a ECWC game in 1974. Swansea had 8 in a ECWC game in 1982.

Must be first time one of the 7 is an own goal though!

Great post. Was wondering if anyone had 7 different scorers before. Didnt remember the Chelsea result. Was this the highest scoring top flight game then where no player scored 2?

Nottsblue - I like your thinking. I guess it is in the Premier League as one Chelsea player scored twice and no other club has had 7 scorers in the PL, but not certain pre-PL. There have been quite a few 7 scores in old Div 1 (City have had a few) but I don't know how many of these had 7 scorers (if any!).
