Edinson Cavani - £53m

Radamel Falcao - £50m
Álvaro Negredo - £16.4m
Our three top striking 'targets' during the close season and what they ended up going for.
Well done, Mr Pellegrini and the powers that be. No 'City premium', no sweating the FFP implications; just a well-thought-out acquisition of a player who completely fit the mould.
More signings of this nature next summer, please.

I remember some posters complaining that we hadn't made a marquee signing and none of our signings were "top-drawer" during the summer transfer window. Hehe.

I admit I was very wrong about Negredo, the Beast is a fantastic signing.
Navas and to a lesser extent fenandinho i'm not sold on yet though.

Almost 30m for felleini is hilarious.
I'm still convinced they are paying tribute to the different stages of michael jackson's career with the valencia and nani signings. .. and now its his early career with the jackson five.
It's only a matter of time until they swoop for al fayed's statue.

Negredo is one of my favorite ever city players, i had no expectations of him and felt he was going to be the biggest flop since flipper but he has been excellent a proper fans favorite and very very likeable. I think its the first number 9(numbers wise) we have got right in my city lifetime, who else played 9 and was a success?

I think the stat that hurt our expectations of him was that he wasted more chances than anyone last season in the entirety of Europe.
Better quality of chances playing with this team has seen that improve a lot.
Honestly he played well, but two of his goals he could barely miss, Nasri and Aguero deserve a lot of credit for putting it on a plate for him.

Fair point. I'd maybe throw in Anelka. He was superb, mainly. Top draw player in my opinion.

Slim, i know PSG shelled out big bucks for him, i don't rate him that much and am really glad we didn't buy him. 15 mill tops. I think though you are refering to Negredo and he most certainly has proven himself so far this season.

To be honest its not the goals i love him for its everything else for me they are an added bonus, what a nightmare he must be to mark!

Valencia looks exactly like Jermaine. Maybe they're going for the Jackson 5.

Negredo has been fantastic so far this season. He's scoring plenty of goals, his partnership with Aguero gets better each week, and he has a strong work ethic which all supporters want to see from their players.
As the OP says, he has definitely proved to be great value for money. Although whilst we didn't pay a 'City premium' for him, we most certainly did for Fernandinho! I think Fernandinho has done quite well so far and could prove to be good player for us, but the fee we paid is still quite embarrassing.

Not nearly as embarrassing as 28 million for sideshow average.

Our signings this season sound more awesome when we compare them with Chelsea.
They spent so much, but I am sure they are salivating for strikers looking at Negredo and Aguero. William, Eto, Schurrle have been not very effective, other than to displace a superb player- Mata to bench.
Negredo has cemented his place in Spanish team because of his his city form, if only Fernandinho can replace Ramires and Micah gets into England squad it would be awesome.
