How the fuck are we in 8th?!

Because of the type of chances we are conceding.

I'd like to see us take more shots from outside the box instead of always trying to find the killer pass.

It's interesting to see it actually proven statistically. It always seems like we don't take enough shots & there it is in blue & white.

Other than that, the stats suggest we are getting many things right, well better than anyone else in this league anyhow.

It's interesting to see how many goals we have scored from set pieces & how much we are actually dominating games, including away games, but to find we are conceding fewer goal attempts than our competitors is a bit of a shock to me.

Also highlights the problem with all this possession; teams are sat behind the ball all the time so we get few counter attacks. They counter attack us instead. Even Chelsea.

But all in all it suggests that without the individual fuck ups which are currently ruining us, we would we well away, which is how it has appeared to me tbh.

Scarey reading for the rest of the league; those are the stats when we are struggling. What will they be like when we get it right ?

being camped in the oppos defensive 3rd is our biggest issue, strange as that may sound...
they pack their defence meaning we have to wade through fucking treacle to get the ball into the back of the net and in addition to this it leaves us open to the counter attack - nothing new here either.... anyone remember the qpr game???

It's definitely nothing new, this trying to beat through teams parking the bus.

I do believe we are a lot better at it than we were. The trouble is we are worse at defending the counter attack at the min. Letting go of Barry is one reason for this. Obviously having to constantly change the back 4(5) makes it really difficult.
Missing our captain and Fernandinho is another element.

I would like to think when these are addressed, even to a certain degree, we'll break ahead of all other teams in this league. So I'm annoyed, but I'm optimistic and those facts have only strengthened that optimism.

Absolutely fascinating.

The statistic about our players being carded at The Etihad is highly noteworthy.

We're either bigger cloggers in our own back yard than any other team, or we have to play against twelve men, not only away from home, but on our own turf as well.

Or am I cynically reading too much into this ??..........

There were numerous examples of this from previous seasons. I put a few examples on here showing games v various teams & the number of fouls we conceded even when we had the majority of the ball, compared to the fouls conceded v the same teams by 'you know who'.

So we average 60% possession in a game, but still manage to rack up more fouls than any other team!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.......fishy!

I think point 4 and 1 explain why Javi plays so much.

So therefore we have more possession & concede fewer shots on goal when he is on the pitch ?

Like in the first half at Sunderland compared to the 2nd half perhaps ? Or the way he dominated possession at Newcastle ?

Navas made TEN more passes than Garcia, & he's a fucking winger. Lescott wiped the floor with him for passes at Newcastle.

I've often wondered about this, the only thing I can think of in the ref's defence is we often stop quick counter attacks with fouls.

It's certainly strange that we clock more fouls with that much possession. As mentioned it could be the panic on the counter attack.

Equally, it could be a more sinister, particularly as it has been getting steadily worse over the last three to four years. At what point do you stop being paranoid and start highlighting it and asking for answers?

The game where he came on for 19 mins and where he had 94% pass rate to JL 92%Yeah you are right in the extra 71 mins he had on he did wipe the floor with him.

Only stats that matter are the win, draw or loss stats.

Better tell the club that, they can make some savings on the payroll.

"Fleig's full-time department alone consists of four analysts attached to City's first team and six analysts working at every level of the club from Under-21 to Under-9 level"
