Barrow for Marrow

16 workers from Jaguar Land Rover in Halewood are taking part in a crazy stunt to raise much needed funds for, and promote awareness of the Anthony Nolan Trust.
On April 12th they will be pushing each other in a wheelbarrow from the home of footballing excellence, the Etihad Stadium 34 miles down the East Lancs road to Anfield Stadium, Liverpool. They will arrive just in time for the kick off of the Liverpool v Manchester City game, with numerous blisters and bruises but pride in their contribution to such a great cause.
Andy Coles tells me “We have all been inspired by a brave young boy called Charlie Fearns who at age 7 is suffering with Leukaemia for the second time in such a short life. Thanks to Anthony Nolan, he can carry on his fight. Up until now, many of us have completed individual challenges to raise money and awareness, but now we're all coming together for something special!”
Charlie a Liverpool fan who is pictured below with Steven Gerrard (but we can forgive him that error, he is young and influenced by his parents) had a bone marrow transplant in January 2013 after battling acute lymphoblastic leukaemia for four years. His donor lives in Germany which demonstrates just how hard it can be to find a suitable match. Charlie’s Dad, Rob tells us “Charlie is such a good kid. We have been in hospital for pretty much four years and he has never moaned once.” Rob urged more people to sign up to become donors. He said: “I don’t think many people are aware how easy it is to become a donor. We’ll keep pushing for people to sign up.”
Charlie is now doing well, so the 16 workers are determined to use his inspiration, to link together two of the worlds best known footballing cities, bringing together proud and passionate fans of both teams and a global football audience to ensure everyone understands how they can help people of all ages survive Leukaemia either through joining the donor register or simply making donations to the charity.
The planning for the challenge is still in it's early stages, and already they have help from Manchester City, Liverpool, B&Q, Jaguar Land Rover, Magna UK, JamPR.co.uk and many more! Now though, they need your donations. Without your help, Anthony Nolan can't keep doing what they do best, saving lives.
