Platini goes crazy wants sin-bin to replace yellow cards

European football chief Michel Platini has called for yellow cards to be replaced by a sin-bin.

"I would make it like rugby, punishing the offender with 10 or 15 minutes out of the game," he said in an interview with Spanish sports daily newspaper AS.

"It is an idea. Now it needs to mature and see if it really is good for the game. It is a proposal to be explored."

Uefa president Platini also backed the idea of allowing national cup champions to take part in the Champions League.

Under the existing in-game disciplinary system a player who is shown a straight red card or two yellow cards in the same game is immediately sent off and cannot be replaced.

However, if a player picks up a certain number of yellow cards spread over several matches they will be suspended for future games, and it is this aspect that most concerns Platini.

He believes a sin-bin would be a fairer punishment because "that way, the benefit goes to the team he is playing against, in the same match, instead of a sanction by cards which is carried out against a third team, the next on the calendar".

The former France captain, who won 76 international caps between 1976-87 and has run Uefa since 2007, also believes goalkeepers who concede a penalty should not be sent off.

"It seems excessive," he said. "The penalty is itself already is punishment enough.

"I think it's something that everyone in Fifa and Uefa agree, but one or two of the countries that make up the International Board are unwilling to change."

Regarding the subject of Champions League qualification, which is currently restricted to where teams finish in their domestic leagues, Platini backed plans to also include winners of domestic cup competitions..

"I agree with this proposal, which we have debated many times," he said. "But when it comes time to vote, countries that don't want to cede a place for the cup champion are in the majority."

Good idea, I think rugby is way ahead of football in terms of refereeing. Much more respect given, no backchat, tv replay technology implimented a few years back, referee & lino's wired up so they can let referee's know their input straight away. Sin binning does punish the team in that exact game, I get what he says there.
I would think like that being a rugby player though.................

Shit idea because you could end up with 8 v 9 or stupid shit like that or even 11 v 8 for periods of the match. Platini is a nobhead.

I dont think you would, referee's wouldnt hand yellows out like they do now and reds would be even rarer. I think it would bring back the good hard tackles that you used to see and players would also be a bit smarter about fouls. You dont see 12 against 13 in rugby matches, because players know the boundries and only cross them if they need to or get yellows for persistant infringements.
Platini is a cock though, agree on that one!

If it was like this then the rags would finish every game playing against 8 men and the ref would be in complete control of who wins any game.

Would love a strict no talking back to the ref rule. Cuts out all the crap and makes the rags chances even more hopeless.

Agree with this wholeheartedly.

Also, what would happen if a goalkeeper got a yellow card?

Like a prop in rugby, you could take another player off to put your reserve keeper on for the time that your 1st choice keeper has been sin binned for.

Agree with the penalty being punishment enough though

Why not change it a little and have a 10 minute adjudication on red cards? If the ref has it wrong, the player comes back on after ten minutes? Far more sensible approach

What would happen if the referee wanted to hand out a 'punishment' (currently a red or yellow card) after the game has finished ??

I'm only asking because in the last few games, I've especially noticed Shrek and several other of his Scum-mates all crowding round the referee, in a loud-mouthed and threatening manner, after the final whistle.

It just looked to be a concerted attempt to browbeat the officials, prior to any future games involving the Swamp-dwellers, that they might be in charge of.

Clever bloke is Platini. The ref's can't currently give much of an advantage by giving a yellow but imagine what they could do if they could sin-bin players?

City winning 2-1 with 15 to play. Yaya does his usual 'Hissy Fit' after he feels hard done because the ref has given a 50/50 against him. Out comes the purple card and hands the advantage to a team who are well on the back foot. They draw level against the 10 men before going on to winning it just before Yaya comes back on in extra-time. Whistle blows, game over, game lost.

It's an alternative control measure that has no real authority other than what one man deems fit.

If you're unhappy with the ref's now, imagine what it'd be like with this idiotic idea. We get too many yesllow's as it is.

This would bring about even more diving & players with 'stature' ( as Nev***le referred to Rooney when he got away with his latest red card assault) being given even more help by gutless/bent refs.

Imagine that twat getting away with murder, then Zabba being sin binned for grabbing his arm & him scoring whilst we're down to ten. ( Or getting one of our ten sent off so it stays that way?)

Platini is a grade 1 cock. He is just trying to make sure he's noticed for when the even bigger cock Blatter fucks off before he gets caught up in his corruption.

Rugby has a couple of things going for it that football could follow. The relative lack of backchat and general respect for referees is for me the one thing football could learn from and improve. Swift retrospective action and fair punishments are another. Also love that the refs and the 4th officials are miked up and explain their decisions. Sin bins are not the way to go imo. Teams will be punished by biased refs even more than now as they will be a man or two down
