Pellers got the goal difference wrong?

Postby mancitymark » Tue Dec 10, 2013 10:00 pm

The Manager thought we needed to win by 3 goals and not 2 to go top.

What's more important is why he doesn't buy a shirt that fits. It looks like he's got a neck that's fit for ringing

Ill put here what I put in the match thread..

Obviously a translation thing.. what Pellers meant was..

'When he says 'IF' 4 goals.. I think he means it was worth risking Aguero IF he was to score.'

Thats what I thought when I heard him say it and the way he said it.

Yes it certainly came across that way to me and them lot on Sky.
He defo seemed confused about needing just one more goal to win the group.

Don't care. We got 15 points, beat Bayern and should take a 'bring it on' attitude into the next round. If we're worried about who we draw in the Round of 16, let's just give up our place now.

Manufactured rubbish by Sky. Shame on you for believing this shit.

An off the cuff remark that was just an random excuse for why Aguero didn't feature.

Sky can't handle that we just achieved one of the best results in this years CL. And one of the best European results in the history of our club.

Does it go on away goals on head to head. On wiki it has "Because other tiebreakers take precedence, the away goals rule is rarely invoked in such tournaments." That would suggest that goal difference takes precedence.

"If two sides are even on points at the end of the group stage, then their head-to-head record determines who goes through. If that record is even, the side who has scored more goals away from home in the two matches between the two sides in question progresses."

Massive fuck up.

The guy clearly said if we had four Aguero would go on. He also said it was too risky needing two more.

How the fuck is that manufactured?

Absolutely not, it was down to his English - he was saying he was tempted to go for a fourth goal but he had the weekend to think of. Sky are trying to say he thought we needed to win by three goals. Don't buy it.

Ah that's the kind of explanation I was looking for at the start of the match.

He said he was tempted to put Aguero on to go for a fourth goal, he was tempted to go for a fourth goal. THAT WAS HIS MEANING IN THE CONTEXT OF THE INTERVIEW EXPRESSED IN RELATIVELY POOR ENGLISH.

He never said that mate. He said Aguero was warming up and had we got a forth he would have sent him on. He also said it was too risky leaving silva on when we needed to more goals.
