Not surprising. Don't think he'll ever go anywhere else in Europe tbh. He'll stay at Barca for a few more years then head to the states.

All a contract does is increase wages and possibly transfer fee.

Not saying he will leave, but this doesn't mean he won't.

I'd like to have seen him go to aother country to see how he coped. I imagine he'd cope well.

Our agreement to FFP sanctions means this is a none starter for quite a while. Time to move on.

I think it discounts us from any such deal indefinitely

once we prove we can genuinely break even without selling intellectual property to balance the books then things will open up for us, probably talking two years though.

Personally althoughi'd love to see Messi I don't think we actually need him. I never thought I'd say that but Messi would have to replace one of our current heroes and I'm not certain he'd bring that much more than Aguero. It's a great position to be in though, being linked with him and saying 'err, actually no. He'd disrupt us and isn't needed'.

So long as he doesn't go you-know-where!

He'd actually make a much bigger difference to them than he would to us. They never really replaced that ladyboy chap and could build their side round him.

Thankfully, the Glazers' ownership of the rags guarantees Messi, or anyone like him, will not be rocking up at the swamp any time soon.

If reports are to be believed, €20m after tax per year. After tax!

No way in the world would those sorts of figures on top of a transfer fee be re-couped. FFP or no FFP, even our owners would baulk at that imo.

As a by product of the unrest at Barca and them maybe having to make cutbacks in other areas to pay for Messi, perhaps a long hard look at Fabregas?

Fabregas is definitely a shout but it would be difficult to keep him happy in a midfield bulging with talent. First priority is a really top class defensive midfielder who can cover the ground with pace releasing Fernandinho and Yaya to do their damage further up the field. All that plus Merlin and Samir makes it hard to see where Fabregas might fit in. On the other hand he's home grown and a top quality Premiership proven player. No doubt about it.

I don't think there's any way we would ever pay messi that kind of money, even without ffp. But sponsors might.

Be interesting to see Platini & Co trying to ban him from the Champions League.

Seems like they are selling Fabregas and Sanchez atleast. Now an interesting question would be:

Would our team be better with option 1 or 2?
1) Messi added
2 ) Fab and Sanchez added

I would have Cesc but not Sanchez, I hate the way sanchez hits the deck if someone as much as farts near him.

Messi would improve any team.

Our team would be better with Messi. Just like every team on the planet.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love Fabregas and he is a more real option, but I think Messi is arguably the greatest ever and he's 26.

We look to be on the same level as Barca. Fabregas is surplus to requirements at Barca.

Shouldn't these 2 sentences link up somehow? IE we already have better.
