The view from the [strike]Away[/strike] Home End

I wish I could think of something different to say here, but it seems our reputation goes before us now and even our away performance is starting to put the fear of god into the opposition fans. This must be progress! So no change for this game, the general feeling is that is that the barcodes are going to have a very difficult Sunday afternoon.
For the record, the picture this week is Francis Lee scoring the winning goal in the 4 - 3 victory at Newcastle, making City 1968 Division 1 champions.

Team Selection

Krul
Santon Willo MYM Haidara
Anita Tiote
HBA Sissoko Gouffran
Remy

My Favourite

I hope they use lube

And the rest...

No way we will play 442 in this game it has 451 written allover it.

I think the only way in which we'll be able to win this is if we nick a 1-0 win and shut them out. I can't see any other way than that.
Another defeat I'm afraid.

We need three in the middle, and as Cabaye will not be available, I'd put Sissoko in CM role.
I cannot really see anything other than a loss, not to be negative like, but Man City are class everywhere.

If we try to defend we will certainly lose, we have to go out and attack like crazy, If we play defensively I can see a 0:2 or 0:3 loss, maybe worse, so let's get at them, keep a defensive shape but play on the front foot and we might get them under pressure. If we can do that and grab a goal or 2, then maybe we can nick a draw or maybe more with goals galore. Pelligrini will be expecting us to set up defensively for sure, Pardew will likely oblige, but maybe he can out fox him here?!

I am looking forward to it! Except of the away day beating to city on the opening day, we have really stepped up against the big teams this year (excluding Everton away ) and there is always a chance that we can do something against anyone at home if we give it a fair crack!

If Taylor plays we are seriously hammered. The thick arsehole had himself sent off last time as he couldn't cope with the difference in class. Cannot see us scoring either.

Watching Negredo tonight, and knowing our expected back line for Sunday, worries me somewhat

If you think negredo and dzeko doesn't work then you haven't seen shola and remy yet.
I thought those two looked f***ing superb last night

Yeah their away form is stinking. In their last 8 games they have won 6 and drawn 2

I'm actually looking forward to this in a strange way. I think we'll get beat and most likely it will be a total rout but Man City are comfortably the best team in the league in my opinion and if we can even so much as muster a hard fought narrow loss it would be a moral boost for the players.

We routinely get cut open and City easily tear us apart every time. We'll lose after trying to 'contain' them.

At least we're at home. But City have found good away form now. We better play 4-5-1. That's our strongest team. But City are brilliant and I fully expect them to win

Our best hope is intelligently matching them blow for blow. If we sit back we'll be massacred

We are going to get absolutely destroyed

City are a devastating side

Thanks very much.

I work in a Newcastle more less every two to three weeks and will be there next week so we need to win for me.

All my contacts up there seem to think we will.

Brings back memories of the 2-0 in the title winning season. What a game that was. Newcastle were 5th and looking good for a CL spot and we had to win to stay on top in the title race.
One of my favorite games of recent times.

prob my favourite of that season. The QPR one was far to stressful. Did a lap of the pub when Yaya scored.

That just made me choke on my sandwich LOL

Thanks CuteMancs, really enjoy reading these, in particular I look forward to the one before the Derby, if we win that (not wanting to tempt fate) I would very much like to have an "after" view too?

Also you may wish to recruit one our Spanish speaking friends ( John@stAustell? ) to translate for the Barca game?

Yep just find me a site and give me a nudge. Spanish-speaking not Catalan of course, can't make much headway with that!

Or just give me a nudge and I'll look for a site. They do have English language ones but it's not the real thing is it?

Really?

There isn't another game that season that's your favourite?

Really?

Thanks as always CM - that really makes for some good reading doesn't it? Let's hope it goes the way they fear it will. (that last sentence sounds a bit convoluted when I say it in my head, but what the hell)

Swamp-thumping aside I know what they mean about this match, Newcastle were unbeaten (or on a lengthy run of results at least) and playing some good stuff at the time - they even played well in the match but they just couldn't live with us, we played them off the pitch. It wasa standout game for me too.

I particularly enjoyed the 1-0 derby at home. It was tense, and the look of resignation on the faces of the rags was something to behold.

It wasn't a stand out game in the way the QPR game was or the two derbies but I'd argue it was our most 'professional' performance in the circumstances.

It would have been so easy for our players to get carried away or complacent after beating United in what was dubbed 'the premier league's biggest ever game'. With the way that game had been built up, you would have thought beating United meant winning the league but there was still an awful lot to do. That game must surely have taken a lot out the team but we went to Newcastle just a few days later whilst they were in the middle of a great run of form but we regained our composure after the derby and we played so well, so controlled and didn't panic when the goal didn't come straight away.

That imo was one of the days we really stepped up and showed why we were champions.
It set us up nicely for our comfortable victory over QPR ;)

Yes, we needed the win and we got it with two goals late on from Yaya. Extremely nervous watch, that game.

Those Geordies seem a little on the pessimistic side. I expect it to be a close game.

There were quite a few games from the tail end of that season that were all crucial where we pulled off a win. Nasri's late goal vs chelsea and Mario's last second penalty vs spuds also stand out to me as great wins

As City fans, we know if we're confident about a game, we'll cock it up. The football gods love toying with us like that.

However our record against Newcastle is quite remarkable, something like 2 draws and 10 wins in the last dozen games.
