Manchester City star Alex Nimely charged over 3-car drink-drive smash

A MANCHESTER City star allegedly ploughed a Range Rover into three parked cars, nearly mowing down terrified clubbers after getting behind the wheel drunk.

Revellers spilling out of a club in the early hours cowered in terror as the car containing Liberian-born Alex Nimely, 22, headed towards them driving the wrong way down a one-way street, it is claimed.

Nimely, described by former England and City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson as the "best young player" he had ever seen, has been charged with drink-driving and faces a ban.

Witness Vincent Davis, 32, last night told the Daily Star Sunday he watched as the posh motor rammed his Mazda 3 sports car in Manchester.

Millionaire footie ace Nimely had a pal with him in the Range Rover.

Doorman Vincent said: "I went to pick up some wages at a club I work at.

"I was walking on the pavement and there were a load of clubbers coming out when I saw a car coming down the one-way street all over the place.

"It headed towards the crowd but hit a row of parked cars, including mine."

He added: "The driver was lucky the cars were there or people coming out of the club could have been hit.

"He had smashed the front and rear bumper of my car and the front wing.

"I rushed over to speak to the driver as he got out of the car with another lad.

"You could tell by his eyes he was pissed.

"Both occupants of the car blamed each other."

Police were called and arrested them at the scene.

Vincent said: "The driver tried to tell the police he was not behind the wheel and that it was one of his pals."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Alex Nimely has been charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol."

Nimely is due to appear before magistrates on Friday.

Ah well, he got off lightly for crashing into a doorman's car, I've seen such things end badly.

I wonder if we will kick him straight out on the strength of this or whether morals don't matter if there's a potential transfer fee involved.

22, and not even thought of as a squad player. I thought he was supposed to be THE next big thing. Saw him score a brace in the FA Youth Cup about 5 years ago.

I think that comments so far are a bit harsh - it's a 22yo male who's had a drink and bent a motor - it's the sort of thing that 22yo's sometimes do. It's stupidity not sexual assault or violence and it's not even a fraction as bad as steve gerrard punching the shit out of a barmans face or indeed many of the other things some of our national players get away with.
He'll lose his licence but that should have nothing to do with his job other than that he'll have broken rules by getting pissed and should be reprimanded - not burnt at the stake.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

I'm not really sure i buy into this 'it's the kind of thing 22 year olds do' nonsense. It's the kind of thing utter bellends do regardless of your age. None of my mates got behind a wheel when they were drunk when they were that age and never felt inclined either.

I think it's important that people in such a privileged position, who even at a relatively early stage in their careers are still role models to youngsters, aren't seen to get off lightly because of their career - quite the opposite in fact.

At 22 he is old enough to understand the consequence of his actions as well as the level of responsibility that comes with being an adult and a well paid professional in a job that puts them very much under the spotlight.

It sounds like it was a miracle nobody was seriously hurt or worse still killed. City wouldn't want a 'Lee Hughes' on their hands. Should they sack him? Well I'm not sure, but he certainly shouldn't be treated leniently by the club or by the authorities.

The problem, and here's where morality and football are in direct conflict, is what if we sacked Nimely and then say one of our first team regulars - lets say David Silva for example, commits the same offence the following month - would we be so willing to take the moral high ground and say he has to go?

The only reason no one has died is cos he fortunately hit a car first instead of a person. He got lucky. He's a cunt of the highest order. Some poor family could be torn to shreds now in grief cos he thought it'd be funny to get fucking wasted, get in his pointlessly expensive car and drive like a prick no doubt showing off. No leniency.

I can only speak for myself, but I once broke some safety glass in school which my parents had to pay for, among other bagatelles. Felt awful about it. I certainly never came close to killing a person, though. You clown.

Balls. Wonder if folks who've had kids killed by drunk drivers would share your thoughts. No excuses what so ever. What if he had ploughed into a load of folks and killed or crippled a couple? Would that still be stupidity?

That's precisely the point. Let's hope it changes his behaviour and he doesn't go the Ray Wilkins route and drag it out in the courts.

No player is above the law. If a high profile player committed the same offence the result in my eyes would be the same. Thank you and goodbye. We are better than to give exceptions like Cantona. I would be very disappointed in our owners should that happen.
