Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City have agreed to take part in a major pre-season tournament in the United States that will also feature Real Madrid, Milan and Internazionale.

The 2014 International Champions Cup will be played in 12 different cities but provides the possibility of the three English clubs meeting when the semi-finals and final are held at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami.

AS Roma and Olympiakos have also been confirmed to take part in the eight-team event, revealed by World Soccer Talk, with an official announcement expected on Tuesday to confirm the dates.

The provisional schedule initially pits United against Roma in Denver, Liverpool against Olympiakos in Chicago, both on 26 July, before City play Milan in Pittsburgh the following day.

United have been pencilled in to face Inter in Washington on 29 July, whereas Liverpool would play Milan in Philadelphia the following day and City would meet Olympiakos in New York.

Chelsea and Everton took part in last year's event and this summer's event will also see matches in Dallas, Phoenix, Charlotte, Ann Arbor and Hartford.

Unfortunately, I suspect it could be a bit of a let down, as most if the best players will still be on holiday after the world cup. Although at least the rags will have a full strength squad available.

Good news for our profile though, especially with NYCFC about to launch

Welcome to Miami (bienvenido a miami)
Bouncing in the club where the heat is on

I'm fucking excited for this. It's being played 15 minutes from my house.

An International Champions Cup soccer match, featuring two of the premier teams in the world, is coming to TCF Bank Stadium this summer, a source confirmed Wednesday.

It is expected that Manchester City from England’s Premier League and Olympiakos from Superleague Greece will play in Minneapolis on Aug. 2. The teams, dates and sites of all the matches in the event are slated to be announced Thursday.

The six other teams in the tournament are Real Madrid from Spain’s La Liga; Liverpool and Manchester United from England’s Premier League; and AC Milan, Inter Milan and Roma from Italy’s Serie A.

News of a match coming here started to leak out in early February, when Manchester City’s website listed Minneapolis as one of the confirmed host cities. But representatives from the Twins (Target Field), the University of Minnesota (TCF Bank Stadium) and the National Sports Center — the only local stadiums that could conceivably play host — either downplayed or denied at the time that the match was coming.

What changed in the last couple weeks is unclear, but what is known is that two of the most storied soccer clubs in the world will be playing in the Twin Cities.

The match could be on the TCF Bank Stadium turf or event organizers could put in temporary natural grass — similar to what Seattle did in 2013 when it played host to a World Cup qualifier. That detail and others should start to emerge Thursday.

Hopefully, it will be a chance for some of City's young prospects to step up and see what they can do.

Grabbed tickets yesterday for the City/AC Milan match. Quite lucky they are coming to Pittsburgh. No idea why they are. No MLS franchise here and there doesn't seem to be a large fanbase for the sport. Hope it sells well enough to be considered again in the future.

planning to go to NYC again to see them play for the 2nd year running. last year milner shook my hand and handed me his t shirt. the Washington DC supporters club got first row seats behind one the goals - hope it's the same this summer.

If the rags only scrape into the last qualifying place for the Europa League, won't they have to miss out on this?
