City secure permission to expand Etihad

Manchester City have been given planning permission to make the Etihad Stadium the second biggest ground in the Premier League.

Manchester City Council voted to approve plans that will allow the 2012 Premier League champions to increase their capacity from the current 47,726 to 62,170 for the start of the 2015-16 season.

Only Manchester United, whose Old Trafford ground can seat 75,811 spectators, can accommodate more fans.

City will add a third tier to both the North and the South Stands, including more than 6,000 extra seats to both, and plan another 2,000 pitchside seats.

The money City spend on extending the ground will not affect their attempts to comply with UEFA’s financial fair play regulations, as infrastructure projects are excluded.

Making the stadium bigger is part of City’s bigger strategy to improve their facilities. Next season, they will leave their Carrington training ground to move into the Etihad Campus, an 80-acre site next to the ground that they intend to turn into a world-class complex and which could cost them as much as 200 million pounds.

City announced plans to increase the capacity of the Etihad Stadium in July last year and formally submitted to the city council in December.

The stadium hosted the 2002 Commonwealth Games and was converted into a football ground the following year, when City moved in.

Moving the training ground to the campus is great but how does that effect players getting to training? I mean at the moment I believe its quite a nice drive from Wilmslow and Knutsford etc to Carrington. Obviously theyre paid shitloads and youd expect them to drive in to the campus anyway but will it change. Will they stay at the campus most days then return home on days off sort of thing? Just a thought. Cant see Aguero etc stopping in traffic on dicky road like the old days.

Every player will get their own suite to stay in during the week and before games if they so wish or they could just get a driver to drop and pick them up for training or get a city centre crash pad,or helicopter in,build a tunnel, live in a more upmarket part of North Manchester.

LOOOOADDDDSSSS of options when you're on 200k a week.

yeah, i can't support this club anymore after all that. sheet...maybe not even the sport itself. i think i may have to go back to supporting america's passed time...whoops...i meant "pastime"...that amazingly popular world sport, baseball. it has growth potential, clearly, and i want to jump on that bandwagon before y'all english folks decide to follow it and ruin it like we have done with the mls.

Doesn't it belong to Manchester University? Presume they'll get the land back with some nice buildings they can use.

Has anyone heard about a ladies team in New York? I heard mention of a stadium being built in NY for a ladies team and I don't recall any mention of it anywhere.

None of the women's teams over here have their own stadium. Mainly because attendance is poor and because we are on our fourth league in 15 years.
