Ermmmm, where is the fake outcry that Wiggy and the Rags are ruinung football; surely this cannot be good for the game?

I notice this news comes when they aren't looking so good and a big story for the Rags when the real story is City beating the Chav's. Where's that 'What's Going On At The Rags' thread?

Wayne Rooney to sign record-breaking £70m deal that will keep him at Manchester United for life

Wayne Rooney has agreed a record-breaking new contract that will keep him at Manchester United for the rest of his playing career.

The England striker’s future has been a huge talking point in recent weeks, with speculation mounting that he is ready to stay at Old Trafford despite the Premier League champions’ worrying form this season.

As yet there has been no official word from the club, however, according to reports in the Sunday Sun and the Sunday Times, United fans will not have to wait too much longer.

Rooney is apparently on the verge of putting pen to paper on a deal that will tie him to the club until 2018, when the striker will be 33.

The contract will net Rooney a staggering £300,000-per-week – a Premier League record – a rise of £50,000-per-week on his current wages.

There had been doubts over the forward’s future at Old Trafford, but Rooney and his representatives are satisfied that manager David Moyes is the right man to take the club forward, with the signing of £37.1m Juan Mata believed to have played a major role in persuading the 28-year-old to stay.

Great news! Rags yet again getting their priorities wrong.

I think he's held the club to ransom knowing that if they don't give him what he wants then he walks off to another club and just pays compensation. That's a ridiculous wage though and if correct it can only be good for us. If you contrast that to our new contract structure then Gollum could have a couple of really top players. Maybe that's the plan, get him on a new contract and then sell him off in the summer.

That's pretty incredible if true, and perhaps a real gamble given his age and level of performances these last few seasons.

Disagree with that. I think it was vital for them to keep him. As big a thing as a major signing

But just watch that there will be none of the "ruining football" stories when they will spend big this year

I just so much hope that it's Moyes who does the spending & not a proven manager.

Stinks of pure desperation! His agent is a star
- rags are screwed and they hold them to ransom.

If he leaves they will not be able to replace him.

He had them by the bollocks and they've paid heavily. They deserve each other.

Is there a single principle that horrible club have proclaimed in public then actually observed?

All true. With those storied that players are wanting to leave the swamp they simply could not let Shrek prove it's true so his agent could screw them for whatever he wanted.Still a quality player but it does show a desperation. Not sure what it says about Shrek to sign just for money as they won't be in the chumps league next season.

I've asked the question before; where could he go ?

Surely it's Utd, Chelsea or Arsenal & that's it ? Even if he was wanted by Real Mdrid etc, how could someone like him exist outside this country ?

He has to choose to hold out hoping for a bid to take him to a new life in London, or to accept the offer on the table & remain in the warm comfort of the swamp.

All of that's immaterial Ted, he's fully on board with the Moyes' way - the philosophy of that football genius has shown him the way, he loves the swamp and used to have a poster on his wall of George Best and always dreamt of playing for the scum, in fact he came through the academy from the age of 6 months.

Anyway the scummers have denied the reports...

He'd be perfect for Mourinho.

It might be worth it paying him a ridiculously large pay check at the moment. He is the backbone of United, and losing him would be a big symbolic loss. But will he still be worth that sort of cash in two or three years? 300K a week must be eating up quite a large part of their wage budget ...

Let's not kid ourselves the rags haven't got money. They have loads of it. A licence to print it in the far east almost. £70m @ 300k a week until Shrek is 33 is a lot of wedge to most clubs. But not the rags. They are obviously running scared of losing him as it looks like RVP wants out as well and to lose both would take some replacing. Shrek, for all his faults has scored well over 200 goals for the rags. Maybe he deserves his payout. If Aguero in 6 years has scored that amount I'd give him an open chequebook

They need to tie Rooney to a deal, or sell him to generate funds for a replacement.

They don't want a situation where he can leave for free after next season.

Be funny if that happened though.

If, after buying into the Moyes 'philosophy' and shackling himself to the Scum for what could be the rest of his playing career, it would be comical if Gollum were to be sacked and Ferguscum brought back to steady the ship.

Shrek might consider that his agent hadn't properly thought everything through.

Somehow I know MuEN will get ahold of this and lead with: "Shrek signs £300,000/week contract, City ruining football"
