UEFA to investigate Pelligrini

Postby AG7 » Thu Feb 20, 2014 3:24 pm

BREAKING: UEFA say they have launched an investigation into Manuel Pellegrini's post-Barca comments.

So even with the lowest possible punishment (3 game ban), he won't be able to be in the dug-out against Barca second leg??

Manuel Pellegrini: Uefa probes Man City manager's comments

Uefa has opened an investigation into Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini's comments after Tuesday's Champions League loss to Barcelona.

Pellegrini was fiercely critical of Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson after the 2-0 defeat at the Etihad, claiming he was "not impartial to both teams".

Uefa said a disciplinary inspector had been appointed to assess the remarks.

"Based on the outcome, a decision will be taken on whether disciplinary proceedings will be opened," Uefa said.

The first leg of Tuesday's last-16 encounter was poised at 0-0 early in the second half when Eriksson sent off City defender Martin Demichelis for a foul on Lionel Messi with the Argentina playmaker clean through on goal.

Replays suggested the incident was just outside the box, but a penalty was awarded which Messi duly converted. In the final minute Barca then added a second through Dani Alves to take a two-goal advantage into the second-leg at the Nou Camp on 12 March.

In his post-match news conference Pellegrini, 60, said: "From the beginning I felt the referee was not impartial to both teams.

"I think it was not a good idea to put a referee from Sweden in charge of such an important match, especially a referee who has made an important mistake against Barcelona in a previous match.

"[It's] more important football in Europe than Sweden. A big game with two important teams, that kind of game needs a referee with more experience."

Pellegrini replaced Roberto Mancini as Manchester City manager in June last year and guided the club to five wins out of six in the group stages of this season's Champions League, including a 3-2 win at Bayern Munich, as City reached the last 16 for the first time.

Very rare for Pellegrini to speak out so he must be very upset with the how the game was officiated and rightly so . In general he was highlighting the fact how the ref "protected" the barca players who with their tippy tappy passing game as soon as there is some sort of minimal contact they go down or the ref blew for a foul . Barca do get "protection" from the officials and the fucking bent UEFA its a fact of life . No foul given on Navas in the barca half which then led to barca breaking away leading to the foul on Messi OUTSIDE the penalty box . I hope Pellegrini gives it them proper style .......... UEFA and Platini corrupt wankers !

They come out and defend the ref and his performance would not be investigated even though he clearly got a major decision wrong along with plenty of other smaller decisions.

Then investigate and will probably punish pellegrini for stating a fact. The ref was shit and gave them everything he could.

European football is a fucking snake pit and it is the pinnacle of football's corruption.

Ref was shite but not so shite as to deserve special mention.

I would imagine the one at the Camp Nou will be much worse.

The Count should have kept his gob shut. Wengerlike embarrassing imo.

Reckon Pellers was allufing to most of the decisions going Barcas way rather than the red card which is pretty much indisputable. Also the fact that Barca had complained about the same ref a season or two ago and human nature dictates he will favour them more. Sometimes least said is soonest mended

I don't think it was embarrassing at all, he was dead right. It says something when my Mrs actually says the same thing, wondering if the game was fixed.

We all know that managers should try to rein it in during interviews but when he's stating exactly what I was thinking then I'd hardly call it embarrassing.

It's good for UEFA though, probably a dead cert for Barca getting through. Even if we thought there was a chance, the reality was very different.

Saying we shouldn't have a ref from Sweden, is just proof that the manager has completely lost it imo.

If it was Wenger or Baconface, we would be laughing our balls off at them.

I find it sad that people think about investigating something like this, it is a waste of resources.

It's not as if the manager accused him of taking bribes or whatever.

He was stating the truth .

For an unusually calm person, i guess something had got on his nerves for him to be so blunt.

We all saw how Alves constantly fouled, body checked ( basket ball style, setting his feet).

We saw how easily biscuits crumbled when Edin put his hand on his shoulder.

I have a good feeling that we will get something out of the second game.

Looking forward to it.

Ok fellas a few harsh truths have surfaced from the Barca game , a few truths that we all knew were there but have now firmly smacked us in the mouth as a footbal clubl trying to progress.

Firstly Pellegrini is being disciplined by the Mighty UEFA for telling the truth and will be banned.

Secondly despite our wealth and our owners buisness power we are the new kids on the block in European niche circles .

Thirdly how much did Barcelona pay for Neymar ???????

Personally I wouldn't give too monkey's mate. If I thought what they were saying was true then I'd be all for it, just as I was when Wenger whinged about the Van Persie sending off or when Chelsea got beat all ends up by the ref. Funnily enough, both of those occassions were at the hands of a Barca team.

The Swedish comment was a bit far but in the heat of the moment it can often come over wrong. Plus, I'd back any of our managers over those those cunts. Never an embarrassment, just a difference of opinion.

Haven't UEFA/FIFA refused the courts access to the relevant documents?

I agree the ref gave too many fouls to protect barcelona, but he is being punished for suggesting the ref is corrupt and isnt experienced enough because of his nationality! Pellegrini went too far for me and if this were any other manager we would all be saying the same. imagine if this was scum complaining about this we would think it was hilarious. every time i come on here there is a new story about who is or isnt being biased to city, since when did we give a shit, this is exactly the sort of stuff United used to spout week in week out.
