The view from The Away End

Image

Lots to celebrate this weekend…

We return to The Ethiad with silverware, Uwe is back, two magnificent goals,  our squad is looking good, we survived the international break in one piece, we can progress to another semi final and we can put to bed the misery of that day in May last year…COME ON CITY

The away fans are not so optimistic. The only thing giving them confidence is the closeness of the Barca game, and how we approach that particular challenge

Team Selection

Tongue in cheek....I think!

----------Al Habsi----Carson----Nicholls----------
---

Perch-Boyce-Ramis-Barnett-Rogne-Caldwell-Crainey

-----------------------Waghorn--------------------------

A little bit more serious:

         Al Habsi
Perch, Boyce, Ramis, Crainey
McArthur, Espinoza, Beausejour
McManaman, Fortune, Maynard

My Favourite

We are FA Cup winners and, at the moment, FA Cup holders

And the rest…

I'm going for 2-2...

...with a 90-minute corker from Jordi Gomez to make it 3-2 to us!

I cant see us winning, or drawing I'm afraid, I really, really, really hope I'm wrong but...

City 3 Latics 1

Laticus has been singing the praises of our roll of results. He does not see a victory or a draw. However, going out of the cup now to the richest club in the world will give us the chance to play them next season in the league. Laticus sees us going down to a narrow defeat. A blip in our run buy two goals to one.

Honestly, something like 3-0 Man City. But whatever happens, we've made a very honorable defense of our cup.

City 4- 2 Wigan

Uwe will want to win at City, where he is loved by their fans. He'll be so up for this game and will make the players perform.
Also, City will rest many of their star players as they play Barca away 72 hours later.

I'm a believer all over again. I reckon on a really small margin win for the mighty Latics

1-2 to Wigan

City 5 v 0 Latics

I think city will be more interested in beating us than trying to salvage anything against barca, which is incredible.

City 3-0 Latics

City now have the bit between their teeth, having tasted success. Remember we are a Championship side playing on their own ground, last year we had more quality players playing on a neutral venue.
3-0 to City and there will be no shame in that.

Personally, I’d take an honourable defeat (1 or 2 goals) right now, where we give a good account of ourselves, and continue our good form in the league.  But …….and this time, it is a BIG but…….. would I be happy with sneaking a win, and getting to another Wembley semi, if it meant that our promotion charge potentially gets de-railed.

Got to admit City have put together a reasonably decent team considering their limited resources, but I think the gulf in class between them and Wigan will need a lot of hard work and not a bit of luck to see them progress.

My early thoughts on Uwe are mainly positive. He's rapidly turning round a season that was falling apart under that clown Coyle. I like the style of football that he talks about wanting to implement wven if its only been seen in glimpses so far.
My only reservation with him so far is his apparent obsession with rotating his squad from game to game. He makes a minimum of 4 changes from one game to the next (& it has been as high as 6) & I feel at times that it has taken away momentum from the side & been responsible for stuttering performances that have seen us lose at Doncaster & Huddersfield. By all accounts it was the one criticism that Brentford fans (& apparently players too) had of him so it can't just be blamed on Latics Europa, FA Cup & extra league commitments this season

As for players to watch out for, there are no names that will be new to you with the better players in the squad, all being ones that were there last season too.

As happens when teams get relegated, those players out of contract think they deserve bigger & better clubs whilst those "bigge" clubs circle like vultures picking off those still under contract. I think we lost somet like 12-15 players from last seasons squad although by no means were most of them first team regulars - of the cup final starting XI Robles (GK), Alcaraz, Scharner, McCarthy & Kone have all moved on & the same applies to Golobart, Di Santo & Henriquez off the bench (so 8 of the 17 have left) whilst Maloney, Watson & Caldwell are missing through injury & Fyvie is out on loan somewhere.
So all in all 12 of the 17 squad members from that marvellous day will not be involved on 9th March for one reason or another.

In short its a completely different Wigan Athletic City will be facing from the one you saw on 11th May 2013

Nothing to lose, really. An on form City could stuff any team in the country so there’s no point in just defending en masse. I imagine we’ll play a fair number of players who wouldn’t be in Rosler’s ideal first team so Espinoza, Fortune and the like will probably play.

Cheers Cute, above is my favourite... IMO there are too many of our players who will be still be smarting last years performance.... As much as we would like not to give Uwe a spanking, there is little, if none of that sentiment left within the club as it is today.

Show them respect but remember that we are within grasping distance of the semi of a 2nd cup this season.

As much as I would love to overturn the Barca deficit (shit knows what will happen on the night as Gilliie I think, eluded to the other day?) if we beat Wigan on Sunday, it will further the belief in our squad to win the prem too, assuming everyone stays fit and we don't get fucked over by a wank ref decision.

Then we will just hear Maureen bleat on about on about money like the rest (in true hypocritical fashion)

CTID, whatever the outcome on all fronts this season.... And the next and the next

Just taking a look at one of their forums and found this one... We’re fifteen to one to win this. Fifteens in a two horse race!!! Then later posts the odds of them winning got pushed out to 20/1 I really do hope we show them some respect (until at least the second goal lol)

Ian they are one of the form teams of the Championship and imo much better than Watford so we have to play our strongest 11 from the start. No pissing about like the Watford game.Like you said in the other post we are 90 mins away from imo a winnable Semi-Final.
