Pardew

Did Pardew get off lightly? A seven game ban, the first 3 of which is a stadium ban.

For me, he's a very lucky boy. He has lots of previous form and a stadium ban till the end of the season would have been my punishment. Along with cleaning out the bogs at Wembley after the Froch v Groves fight!

A total bell end with no regard to anyone else

It just goes to show how football is so out of touch with reality.Any other business he would have been sacked for gross misconduct.

Reckon Newcastle gave it serious consideration though. An easy way out of that silly 8 year contract. In the end though, who would they get? Maybe better the devil you know

Nah, I think that's OK. Very stupid thing to so in the heat of the moment but he has apologised, Meyler has moved on too and IMHO 7 games should be enough for everybody to forget it.

I would have banned him from all football forever. He has shown he is an habitual offender and his offences are getting bolder each time. Should never be near a football match again.

And these two are comparable...how? Two very different incidents

Cantona nearly punted some cunt out of the ground, Pardew practically kissed the guy, not even similar.

Both unacceptable behaviour in a football ground. None of them would be employed after their behaviour in any normal job.

Well that is true but why is this such a big deal? Should Nasri have been given 8 months last season for his incident with Bassong(?). These "headbutts" happen all the time (not that it is a good thing but anyway)?

To play devil's advocate, does no one else think the word 'headbutt' is being used a bit too broadly? What Zidane did in the world cup is a headbutt, where he threw his head with force at the opposition player, Pardew's was more of a squaring up and a flick of the head.
Still completely unacceptable though.

'Normal' and football don't go hand in hand.

The thing is though with that absolute ASBO (Pardew), he always does shit like that and then apologises as if that makes it okay then... I reckon Newcastle should have sacked him.

Their owner is equally reprehensible.

Ít's probably just me, but I like Pardew. I think he copped a nudge and overreacted, but these players get to play the hard man one minute, fake death the next.

He shouldn't have done it, but I wasn't offended by it and I think the ban fits. It's a similar ban to what one would expect for that kind of nudge from a player.

Imo what Zidane did was just a pathetic gesture too. If he was so upset, why 'headbut' a bloke in the chest, so as not to hurt him ?

The whole business is ridiculous these days. Tbf to the Hull player, he didn't milk it. Usually one bloke pretends to headbutt the other, & then the geezer on the receiving end, pretends to be hurt. Nothing has actually happened either way, just a pointless fucking pantomime.

Bizarrely, loads of players now get away with punching people in the face & drawing blood, because Andy Gray told everyone you have to do that in order to jump in the air & it's unintentional. (Because he used to deliberately punch people in the face all the time). But get sent off for pretending to headbutt.

I guess the point is when I heard that Pardew had headbutted a player and the media were going crazy, I expected that he'd done a Zidane like headbutt and really smashed his head with force at the opposition player.
As a matter of fact there was very little in it, a squaring up and a flick of the head.
Still wrong and deserves a suspension but not worth the hysteria that it got.
