Steve Bruce Being Nice

Wtf ?

You can tell Ferguson has retired.

Hull boss Steve Bruce still thinks Manchester City are still one of Europe's best

After winning the Capital One Cup final against Sunderland a fortnight ago, Manuel Pellegrini's men have crashed out of both the FA Cup and the Champions League.

Bruce reckons the Blues are up there with the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona and he expects them to be a dominant force for years.

The Hull boss, whose side face City at lunchtime today, said: "They haven't got the history of those great clubs, so that will take time.

"But when you see them play and you match them up, then absolutely, they're as good as any side.

"Once you get to the last 16 and quarter-finals, it's usually an incident that turns the game one way or the other.

"They're a fantastic team with wonderful footballers. Two months ago, they were unbeatable.

"You haven't got a given right to win anything, even if you're Manchester City. If you win a trophy, you've had a successful season."

City's rise to the top has been bankrolled by billionaire Sheikh Mansour since 2009 but Bruce said the club would be nowhere without their die-hard fans.

He said: "The one thing you can never take away from them is the support. I remember them dropping down to Division Two and they'd have 30,000 every week.

"They've got a magnificent, truly loyal support.

"After being in the city for 10 years, they were always unbelievably well supported.

"In that respect, they are a truly big club.

"Now, with the investment and what they're building there, they're going to be a force to be reckoned with.

"You go as a visiting manager there and it's canapés before the game.

"It's breathtaking the stuff that goes with it. It's wonderful, where they've come from."

Jeebus! I can't think of anything terrible to say about him after that, for the moment.

I think the bitterness has subsided and the reality has sunk in.

I notice that even though Bruce didn't have a pop the usual crap was spouted in the story. Billionaire bank-rolling is still all the rage from some outlets.

I wonder if it will be mentioned after the game in the post-match interviews?

My guess is that up to January next year we'll be practically unbeatable, too. That's around the time we start going downhill.

Yeah it's been fucking miserable recently.

If it wasn't for winning the League Cup for the first time since 1976, I'd cut my own head off with a rusty knife.

Fair play from Bruce. His tutor would've just said we were scum and lucky and undeserving. And that the rags are and always have been the classiest club in England.

Still don't like him mind.

Why don't you have a go anyway? Might be more fun for you than being a prick.

To be honest, I've never had him down as that bad a dick. If you take his darkside past out of the equation, he seems like a fairly nice bloke. Not cut from the same cloth as snidey pricks like Macari and Keane at all.

I just can't think of an instance of his having been an outrageous tosspot or having had a snide dig at us, so for those reasons he doesn't bother me.

Hadn't seen his earlier interview, but after the game he was very gracious. I thought he'd go on about the penalty decision, but he sort of glossed over it and even made a point of saying he was going to have a chat with his diver.

All credit to him. And now I feel slightly grubby

Possibly the least odious of Bacons minnions. Maybe Strachan is slightly more bearable.

Keane, Robson, Solksjaer, Southgate to name a few are all far far worse
